Registry surprises

Ok, sorry about all the recent registry discussions, but that is my current task at hand.  We decided on Macy's and BBB (along with Younkers, a local dept store for my great-gma who can't shop out of my hometown).  I guess my question is what all were you completely surprised by when registering?!  Mine would probably be the cost of silverware!!!  My FI hates half of our current set (mis-matched), so we are going to get new, but I was trying to add some from BBB and they are all like well over $100 for like 8 sets!  Crazy!!!

Re: Registry surprises

  • We also registered at BBB for silverware but changed it to our Walmart registry because it wasn't as expensive and got really good reviews.

The items that we were most shocked with was towels at BBB.  We put 4 in our registry and FI said 'okay they are $40' I was thinking that meant total, no, it meant each towel was $40.  We took those off the registry right quick!

  • For me it was duvet covers.  They are $150 to cover a comforter that is another $300!

This surprised me too.  We just got a king, and I got a 20 piece bed set for $150 at Kohls... now we have a dog I wanted a duvet cover so I can wash it... tag shock!

One of the shower curtains we were considering. Once we realised it was $40, we deleted that fast!

Not a whole lot was surprising price-wise for me. What did surprise me was the lack of availability of round plates! We definitely don't want square, as people who have square plates tend to weigh more (study done months ago) and FI already has weight issues, but the only brand we liked, the store only carried their square varieties! We had to go to the brand website and choose the design to add to one of those general internet registries.
  • China.  I knew nothing about the different types of fine or casual china until we went to BBB.  We ended up registering for a set that is a reasonable price per setting ($50), but I was pretty blown away by how expensive they can get!
