No Wedding Cake?

Good evening all!
I was thinking about not having an actual wedding cake for our wedding. The hall and menu include a dessert and a sweet table at midnight. I would rather not have THAT many sweets at the wedding.
Perhaps just a little cake that my hubby and I can cut for tradition and keepsake photos?
Opinions? Thanks!

Re: No Wedding Cake?

  • A lot of people opt for no cake. I think there are several girls here who are using cupcakes and other alternatives. I like the idea of having at least a tiny one to cut into for tradition.

  • We are planning on getting a cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. I think that it's fine not to have a wedding cake as long as you and your FI are okay with it.

  • For our guests, we'll be serving a variety of homemade pies with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Like PP, I too like the idea of having a cake to cut into for tradition and the photo op, so we'll be having a small cake for that.

What time does your reception start that you'll be serving dessert at midnight?

  • My mistake. I meant to say that there is dessert after dinner and another sweet table at midnight.
I do like the idea of a small cake... plus we'll have open bar so everyone will be fine :)

  • Totally agree with PP. I think no cake is fine, but I would definitely go with at least some sort of a small cake so you guys can cut it!

<div>That sounds great! I would have liked to do a snack like that, but our reception is ending quite a bit earlier at 10:30 and it just wouldn't have worked out given our timeline. There are so many great ideas out there for those "midnight snacks!"</div>

  • We are doing cupcakes with a small cake on top for FI and I. I think you're fine!

  • I'm commenting a little late here but I am also not having a cake.  Fiance and I both are not cake fans (especially wedding cake) and much prefer pies.  I don't care much for the cake cutting traditon and think you can have good pictures cutting pie or whatever dessert you choose.  So I think your option is totally fine.
