Seamstress problem, which one should I use?

Last weekend I finally purchased my dress at a small town Bridal Store and the lady who owns it has been helping me out for a couple months prior to last weekend on going through dresses, accessories, invitations.  I didn't try them on until last weekend because I wanted to wait for the mothers and my MOH to be available to go with me, but the lady i've been dealing with has been wonderful in everything she has helped me with.  I plan to have her do my invitations, another service she offers at a great price.
Here is my problem.  A former boss of mine, i've known her a long time before I worked for her and we communicate with each other every so often when I go back home to visit family, she works part time on the side as a seamstress at a Bridal Store back in my hometown.  She has offered to do all of my dress alterations at no cost.
I knew of this before I purchased my dress, and I thought it was a wonderful gesture.  However, the lady at the Bridal Store where I purchased my dress, I think is under the assumption that she will be doing the alterations.  Do I take up the offer from my former boss or have the lady who worked with me the last couple months do the alterations?  My former boss is over 2 hours away, the other lady is 15 minutes away.  What would you ladies do?

Who do you think would do the best work?  Alterations can be pricey.  If I knew it'd be the same quality, I'd probably let the former boss do it and just be honest with the lady at your dress shop that someone is doing it as your gift.

  • As PP said, if you know your former boss is going to do a great job, let her do it. The woman you have been working with is getting your business with the dress and invites. Just let her know asap that you already have a seamstress who is working on your gown.

  • Totally agree with PPs. Make sure that the work is of good quality and go witht he seamstress who is offering you a gift. I'm sure she'll understand, and it's not as tho she is losing your business entirely
  • I would pay for it because it is closer, personally if you dont mind driving the 2 hours for 2-3 fittings and then again for a pick up go for it but closer to the wedding I know I will have enough on my plate wthat I would rather pop in down the road to do my fittings then schedule out 6 hours of my time (2 there, 1 fitting, 2 hrs back0 everytime i needed to do a fitting.
