Growing Hair for Wedding?

I went to check the March board and a common topic was about getting their hair cut after the wedding. The majority were talking about chopping off their hair after the wedding.
So here is my question, Are you growing out your hair for the wedding?

Re: Growing Hair for Wedding?

  • Yes but I wanted to grow it longer anyway...speaking of hair cuts its about that time lol!

  • Yes!  I've been trying to grow my hair out for the last two years.  I made a huge mistake by trying to chemically straighten my hair (I have very tight curls) and it damaged every inch!  Up until late last year, I've been cutting my hair just to get all the damaged hair off.  Now that it's all grown out, I'm trying to get it down to my mid back.  When it's curly, it would be to my upper shoulder blade area, which is how I wear it day to day.  Right now, it's at my shoulders when curly.

  • It has taken me 4 years to grow my hair to where my bra strap is. It was up to my chin 4 years ago. I have always dreamt of my hair being long during my wedding.

  • My hair is already long, but I'm just letting it grow longer! It's starting to REALLY bug me and I feel that by the time the wedding gets here, I'll be ready to chop it!!

  • I go back and forth between having my hair long and then cutting it all off when I get tired of dealing with it, LOL. I started growing it out from chin length last fall because I had a feeling there was a proposal in the near future (I was right), and I wanted to be good and ready! It's at my shoulders now and should be close to my bra line by the wedding.

  • I'm the sole NO vote so far.
I did think about growing it out, but I went just a couple weeks longer than my usual haircut every 4 weeks (I have a pixie cut) and I looked terrible!
So I decided that I've had short hair for so long that it suits me and is my true personality, so it stays.

  • Yes...but I've been trying to grow it out to get rid of these awful layers the last girl cut in my hair.  I'm almost ota good place with them.

  • My hair grows like a weed. I will have my hair a little longer than usual for the wedding because I'm wearing it up, but I'll only go a month or two longer than normal without getting a hair cut. I'll get it cut after the wedding. I usually can't go longer than 8 weeks without a hair cut because it gets way too long.

  • can NOT wait to cut it off!!!  Making an appointment for the day after the wedding to get it all chopped off again :)

  • I am not growing my hair out just becuase of the wedding, I want it long anyways...but I want it to be as long as possible for the wedding. :)  I am doing 1/2 up 1/2 down. I cant wait!

  • I'm growing mine out not specifically for the wedding. I go through periods of growing it and cutting it. I usually get sick and have it chopped off like funky short layers. But I love my hair long and I just always give up on getting it there but not this time lol!

  • I'm growing it out! About 5 years ago I shaved my head to donate to Locks of Love and have slowly been growing it out. About 2 years ago I chopped it off to my chin and then felt like growing it out long again. Now I'll just let it grow longer for the wedding and then cut it off afterwards.

  • Yes..and no.  I donate my hair every couple years.  This April would be when I would normally cut it.  This year I'm just not cutting it.  FI is very happy about this since he loves my hair and gets sad every time I donate it.  I may wait until next April to donate.

For you girls who are planning on chopping off your hair after your wedding, if you're going to be cutting off at least 8 inches please consider donating your hair.  There are several organizations that take hair donations.  I like to give to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths.  They make wigs for women with cancer and only require 8 inches. PM me if you'd like more info about this one.  A lot of people have heard of Locks of Love.  They make wigs for kids, tho the kids don't have to have cancer to recieve a wig.  They require at least 10 inches (last time I checked). There are other groups out there if neither of these appeal to you.

  • I donated 10" of my hair to locks of love two weeks before fi proposed. Great cause. Horrible timing! I'm hoping to get a few more inches before the wedding. Only 7 more months. :

I voted No bc my hair is already long as it is and always has been this length, ive just been maintaining it with regular haircuts, etc. But I dont plan on chopping it off after the wedding, i was actually joking with my hair dresser the last time she cut my hair that after the wedding i was going to come back for a "married cut" and she was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
  • I've been growing it out for the wedding, and plan to donate it for Locks of Love probably between getting home from the Honeymoon and going back to work.  I hate having to spend 20-30 mins drying it.  At least it's almost summer and I don't have to dry dry it before work so it doesn't freeze.

  • I wear mine chin-length all the time...so I'm just growing it to my shoulders or so...just enough to wear it up.

  • Mine was already in the growing out process- I've gone from a pixie cut to almost shoulder length.  I don't intend to do any fancy up-do for the wedding, that's not really me, but am hoping it will be long enough for a real pretty simple bun or a twist.  There's a scene in the movie Eat Pray Love where Julie Roberts has this awesome looking bun, I'm hoping my stylist can pull that off!

I fell in love with the thick bangs that Rose Byrne from the movie Bridesmaids had at the Oscars, but I'm holding off on getting those cut until after the wedding!

  • I'm sticking with my pixie cut. I tried growing it out for the past year, but I just don't like how I look with longer hair. I cut it all off yesterday. My FI"s reaction was adorable, "You look like you again!" :)

  • Ugh yes ! I usually have a 2 the hair line bob and its currenty past my shoulders its driving me nuts, I swear I want it cut the next morning haha
  • I was going to, but I just couldn't stand it. I literally just went Thursday night and chopped it all off. I'm SOOO glad I did!! It's easy to feel like you have to have long hair because almost every picture you see of girls in wedding dresses or with "wedding" hair have long hair. I say if you usually have short hair or like short hair better on yourself, leave it short. :)

  • My hair has always been long. Like CFM I donate it every couple of years. The most I've ever donated was 15 inches. I am honestly ready to have it cut and do plan on getting it cut after the wedding because I am ready for something different. Altho I do love love love my long hair. Right now it is probably about three inches to my waist and has short layers. When I get it cut I will get it cut to my shoulder blades. It's super thick and curly if I let it be and a lot to take care of at times so it'll be nice for it to be a little shorter.
  • In truth I started growing my hair out about 2 years ago when FI ,then my bf, was about to graduate from nursing school. I knew after he graduated we would be getting engaged and I want my hair half up half down for the wedding so I started to let it grow. I had a chin lenght a-line cut. I knew I needed lots of time so I stared even before we were engaged! Lol. Now it is down to my shoulder blades.
