October 2012 Weddings

Can you believe...

I just called Hannoush about getting my ering sized and rhodium dipped before the wedding.  The guy siad no problem, it will take at most 24 hours and it is free since you bought the expended service plan.  Prefect.

Next I call Zales and say I need to get my wedding band sized, how long will it take.  The woman says well it depends on what kind of band it is.  Ummm diamond, I say.  She then asks if it is a wedding band...ummm that's what I said before.  She proceeds to say that I need to come in immediately so they can rush getting it sized and back to me by the end of next week.  Apparently is usually takes at least TWO WEEKS for sizing.  Holy crap!!  We are going to see how much our local jeweler will charge because anything more than a day or two is ridiculous.

Anyone else going through this?

Re: Can you believe...

  • All of the chain jewelry stores take about a 2 weeks to size a ring because they don't do it in store. To resize my e-ring, we had to go to a local goldsmith jewelry store in town and it only took them 30 minutes.

  • Both my rings and FI's ring are from a local place that does ALL their work on site, so when I first had my e-ring I got it back the next day.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • My motto when it comes to jewellery is always use local jewellers with goldsmiths onsite. It's just easier and you get to SEE (and sometimes know) the person who's handling your rings.

  • Huh? When I got my e-ring sized at Jared's, It took them a couple of hours on site. I do need to ask them about the price for getting mine rhodium-dipped.

  • My e-ring took an hour to be re-sized and that was because they had another order to do before mine.  Definitely go to a local jewelry store.  It will be done in-house and you won't have to worry about it being potentially lost in the mail., in addition to being a lot faster.
  • Yup. My e ring is getting resized at Kay. They told me two weeks, maybe less, maybe more. It's been three weeks today. I tried calling over lunch and no one picked up. I think I'm going to stop in this weekend and check on it. It actually wouldn't surprise me if its been done but no one bothered to call.
  • Yup i got my ring at Zales and it takes about 2 weeks when i have to send it out to get it dipped.   I want to get it dipped before the wedding and cant bring it until next Tuesday.  I am a little worried that I wont get it back in time if there is a delay...

  • Jared's does have their own in house jewelers even though they're a chain, but that's also where Kay's, Marks & Morgan, any other Sterling Jewelers company sends their jewelry repairs since they're sister companies. I used to work for Marks & Morgan and this is what happened. If they don't return the ring soon, tell them to get off their lazy bums and go to Jared and pick it up. When we had a rush or an issue, one of us would drive over there ourselves to get things done faster. We had to do this a lot because they handle so much business their quality control sucks. I'm pretty sure they hated me because I sent back re-works ALL the time.

  • I'm another for go to a local place. My FI bought my ering local and the day he proposed we went, watched them resize it so it was never out of our sight and it was on my hand in 5 minutes.
