October 2012 Weddings

Must remain calm

We are getting married this weekend at the church and then the reception is at the big Marriott convention center in town. Our experience with the Marriott has been so great, they are always on top of things and have made everything so easy.

The church on the other hand... We have been members since 1991, and my family donates a lot of time and money to the church. Yesterday, five days before the wedding, I finally got the church's wedding coordinator on the phone, as well as the piano player... I thought ok finally things are on track with them....

Then I find out from my mother that the church called and our pastor decided to take a sabatical and now we have no preacher. Finally at nine last night I get a call from our new preacher apologizing for all the trouble we have been having and promising to make this a smoother ride from here on out.

I'm not mad, but I just would have thought that the church would be more on top of things than this. Its not cool to have things up in the air and unfinished less than a week from the wedding.

Oi vey.

  • Yikes!  I'm glad that the preacher got worked out.  That was probably a nightmare for a short time!  I've found that my church is generally unorganized as well (we had to correct them on the time of the ceremony more than once and they seemed to want to wait until the last minute for everything).
  • Glad it all worked out!

  • Oh goodness, I'd never want to get upset with anyone from my church, but I probably would have read them the riot act. I assume that a sabbatical is something that is planned, hence, they should've updated you as soon as they were aware of the situation. I'm glad everything worked out though!
