October 2012 Weddings

Need Help....I dont know what to do..... :(

Ladies, Congrats to those who have gotten married and those who are getting married this weekend.....

But I have a major problem and quite honestly I am scared.

I have posted before that my parents are not able to come to my wedding (they live about 800 miles away) due to my Dad's health.  My mom just posted on FB that my Dad possibly had another minor stroke and is now refusing to eat or drink and has lost 20 lbs this month (which he doesnt have to lose).  My wedding is on 10/20 (one week) and generally, when someone wont eat or drink, they have about a week to live.  What am I supposed to do?  Am I supposed to continue with my wedding, and just hope that he turns around?  Am I supposed to call it off, and reschedule it?

  • I don't think there's a "right" answer here. Maybe talk to your mom and see what she thinks?

  • That's a hard decision. I'm not sure if there is even a right answer to it. I would talk with your family and see what they are saying. Hope things get better for you and your family.

  • Thanks achiduck, I just got a hold of my Mom and she said that she will leave the decision to me (and honor whatever decision I make).  She said that if I was closer to home, then it would be easier to judge what to do, but since I am so far away, and there is no telling if or when something could happen, its hard to say just postpone it.  Plus, the Drs. have not said that family should come.  So, I guess its not that bad, yet.  They are giving him pretty much the strongest antibotics, but because of the Alzhimers and strokes he has a really hard time swallowing, which makes getting the antibiotic in him next to impossible.

Ahh the problems that creep up a week before the wedding....
  • praying for your family.  I hope you dad hangs on until after your big day.

<div>I'm a nurse and I can tell you a few things. If he can't swallow an antibiotic they can give it to him thru and IV or feeding tube. The same goes for food. If I have a patient that isn't eating the docs will start tube feeds for nutrition and if their stomach can't handle it they will give total nutrition thru the IV. I don't know anything about his case but just becase he isn't eating doesn't mean he has a week to live. I've had patient's not eat for a month or longer! They survivde to to other forms of nutrition. I would continue plans with the wedding and see how things go. Also talk to your mom and FI and see what they think. Your dad's status can change daily and maybe he will decide to eat soon! I'm so sorry you are going thru this at all, let alone at the time of the wedding. If you have any questions I can try to answer them for you. I have faith it will all work out! Best of luck!</div>
