October 2012 Weddings

what's your date?

Hey all, what is your wedding date and why did you chose it?

We are getting married on Sunday, October 28.  When we got engaged I knew I wanted to be married on a Sunday becuase it's uncommon and almost everything is available (I was right!) We were engaged on June 28 and wanted to wait abour a year before being married so we could save for a house.  We treid looking for a date of significane that would hopefully fall on a Sunday in the fall (it's my favourite seson).  October 28, 2008 is when we went to see our first movie together so we picked that date:)

I didn't ever think I'd get married in the fall becuase it's cooler and the leaves aren't green. But then I realized the leaves are more beautiful and i loooove fall.

Re: what's your date?

  • Ours is Oct 20th.  We wanted to get married before the end of the year and fall is my favorite season.  It also is around our anniversary anyway.  We were deciding between the 20th & 27th, and my FI wanted the 20th so it would be easier for him to remember (10-20).  I couldn't argue with that!!  After we set it, I realized that it would be 5 years to the day that we had our first kiss!  I hope we can integrate that into a toast or something!  :)

  • We are getting married on 10/11.  We pick that date because it is really neat that we are getting married on 10/11/12.  That date allowed us to take off a full 2 weeks and it is cheaper to get married on a week day.

Our date is 10-12.  The date picked us!

Originally, I wanted to get married in the summer and FI wanted to get married in the fall.  We also knew exactly which venue, photographer, and DJ we wanted.  So, when the time came and we started matching up availability, summer was completely ruled out.  Our venue is next to Saratoga Performing Arts Center, so there's concerts all summer and we didn't want to deal with the concert crowds being right next door.  Also, August in Saratoga is horse racing season and the small city becomes filled with tourists.  September was out because FI's cousin is getting married then and we didn't want to have our date too close to hers.  Finally, the stars aligned and all of our vendors were available on Oct 12...that is how the date picked us (and FI won the summer vs fall debate!).

  • FI and I aren't hot weather people and we both love the fall, both our birthdays are in the fall, so it just made sense to us. We originally picked the 20th, for the 1020 reason, but the reception venue we wanted and our second and third choices were already booked that day, more than a year in advance! We decided to go with the 6th and both the church and the reception venue were available. I'm not a fan of odd numbers lol. Plus my birthday is the 28th and we didn't want it too close to that. We ended up signing contracts exactly one year to our wedding date!

We live in and are getting married in Des Moines. FI grew up in northwest IA and I grew up in Southwest IA. Met during college and moved to Des Moines after.
  • 10/20/2012 - We got engaged in Feb 2012, after dating over three years, so neither of us wanted a long engagement.  Both of our appartment leases are up in September.  Beyond the time of year, 10 /20 just sounded right and the church was avalible.

We found out after we booked the date that it is also "Sweetest Day" a Halmark holiday similar to Valentines day that is rather popular around here, and also the date of the big Michigan / Michigan State foot ball game.  Thankfully we are far enough away from Ann Arbor that I think we will be ok.
  • Oct 6th. We knew we wanted to get married in the fall. Our anniversary is September 25th, but that isn't on a weekend in the next couple years so nixed that. The 6th happens to fall on Thanksgiving weekend and since I am a student I knew I would have the Monday off, so a day to do homework after the wedding before classes on Tuesday.

  • October 14th - that was my grandparents anniversary and they were married 60 years! That's gotta be good luck right? :-)
  • October 20th - I originally wanted to get married in the summer, but it is so hot in Florida we decided to move it to later in the year for more planning time and to save money. So, I got a bunch of dates from September, October, and November and told FI to pick one. He liked the way 10.20.12 sounded...so that was it! We later found out that it is also the "Sweetest Day", like mentioned above...so that is cute.

  • We're getting married October 20th.

We originally wanted the 6th but realized that's the Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and we didn't want to interrupt our guest's lives. FI pointed out that family may not be super pumped about travelling two weekends in a row, so the 20th was the only other available option for a Saturday wedding at my reception venue.

Thanks for clarifying about Canada's Thanksgiving.  I was just reading snuff's posts and I was really confused!  haha  I feel silly now!

We are getting married on Oct 27. Originally we picked May 12, our current anniversary, but we didn't start planning til Jan and the place I originally wanted wasnt avail so I started looking at the possibility of other dates and it was avail on Oct 28, but with it being a Sun and it being 1 1/2 hours away and fi family are avid church goers it threw out that venue. I found another venue that was avail and since we had already decided on Oct, we checked with fi mom to see what would be better for her she goes to dialysis on Sat, and she said she would prefer Sat, so we picked Oct 27. Our date didn't really have much meaning... But its a week or two off from fi grandparents who are celebrating 50 years this year...

  • Oct. 13 - We needed it to be the second weekend of the month bc that is the only weekend we get my FI's 3 sons (we get them Tue and Thurs every week too).  We didn't want his ex wife to be able to interfere in anyway, trust me she would if she was able, and this way there is no stress on the kids either.  I knew I wanted it to be Oct. and the venue I wanted was available so I was very happy!

We're getting married on Oct. 27. We got engaged in August and I always knew that I wanted a fall wedding.

I love the colors in fall (orange is my fave color ever), carmel apples, and cooler temps (so I don't have to worry about sweating to death). Since our venue was only available on Oct. 6 and 27, we went with the 27th. The 6th is one of BM's birthdays.

  • We're getting married October 13.  I always wanted a fall wedding, but I'm a teacher, so it isn't the most convenient time.  We got engaged in November 2011 and a summer wedding wasn't going to work in that short of a time.  When we began discussing dates, my fiance's first suggestion was a fall wedding because he knows fall is my favorite season.  I couldn't turn down his only request.
His birthday is December 13th and he said 13 has always been a lucky number.  It wound up working out perfectly for us.  Almost everyone I tell has something special in their family that has happened on October 13th.  And both of my grandparents were married that week in October.
  • Mine is October 13th also!  I knew I wanted Fall, and this date was available.  Thank goodness Leap Year made the 13th fall on a Saturday this year, otherwise Friday the 13th would've been the date.  Scaaarrrryyy!

We are gettign married on the 6th as well... BECAUSE it is Thanksgiving weekend lol

and we have lots of family travelling up from Montreal, to Gatineau 2.5 hours, this gives them an extra day to relax and still have thanksgiving celelbrations if they want (after) our wedding... PLUS we love the fall and the 6th is still nice that the leaves are changing but it isn't QUITE so chilly out yet :D (oh and TURKEY and traditional thanksgiving meal is on our menu lol)

October 6th! We both LOVE fall, and knew we wanted to get married this time of year before we were even engaged, ha. From there, it was all kind of process of elimination. We wanted to do a Saturday, and since our venue didn't have a problem with it (i.e., it costs the same to do a Saturday, Sunday, Friday, Tuesday, whatever), we went ahead with it. I was worried that there was too great a chance that September would be too summer-y still, and November could get too winter-y, so that left October! The Saturdays in October, as I'm sure most of us know by heart, ha, are the 6, 13, 20, and 27. I was reticent to do the 13th because then we'd have anniversaries on Friday the 13ths and I'm superstitious (which is incredibly stupid and gets an eyeroll from everyone I tell, ha). The 20th is one of our best men's birthdays and we thought at first, "Hey, most kickass birthday party ever!", but then decided against it, that he might be annoyed. And the 27th I worried might start getting a bit too cold (our ceremony's outside), so we went with the 6th! Plus I kind of wanted an even number. In case it's not painfully obvious, I'm a bit neurotic about numbers, ha.

  • I'm getting married on the 20th. Our home is inside a 3000+ acre park that is amazingly beautiful in the fall.  Moving here was a dream and so was my FI's proposal to me in front of the lake.   We both knew immediately that we wanted a fall wedding so our families could come visit at the best time.  We originally picked the 13th, but had to switch to the 20th to coordinate availability of the church and reception venue. Time is flying by so fast!!

  • October 6th!  The leaves are turning, but it's still usually very warm here (crossing our fingers...last year was in the 80's)!  I love warmth & sunshine, but MN summers are notoriously humid and we didn't want to risk a sticky or stormy day.

  • We are getting married 10/14. I always wanted to get married in fall, but it is getting to be very expensive. Choosing a Sunday afternoon really helped us get the venue we wanted at a price that did not bankrupt us.

I'm sure my fiance would have wanted that as our meal if our date was a few weeks earlier because he LOVES it.  he has at least 5 holiday meals every year that involve turkey.
  • We're getting married on October 13th.  We both love fall and decided immediately we wanted a fall wedding.  October was the month we agreed on, so I wanted the first Saturday haha.  But a good friend of ours throws a HUGE chilli cook off every year on that day so we picked the second Saturday.  Oddly enough a few months ago our friend and his wife split up and he sold his house, so no chilli cook off this year.

  • We're October 12.  Our original date was May 25, but he's English and immigration kind of got in the way.  Since the lawyer said his visa should be due in about June, we figured give it a few extra months' padding, as well as let all our English guests avoid SoCal heat.  So that left Sept or Oct, with our venue there were only a couple dates left in Sept and my BIL's family was already coming out in October (they come for nephew's birthday).  So that left the 12th or 19th (can't afford a Saturday wedding), and all of our vendors were open on the 12th, so we went for it. Plus we didn't want to wait a week if we didn't have to :P
  • October 11 because we fell in love with the 10/11/12 date.  Plus we are getting married in Las Vegas and they are making a big deal out of the 10/11/12 quirky date.
We wanted to do 11/11/11 but it was way too soon (engaged 10/28/11) and 12/12/12 is too close to Christmas.
FI birthday is Halloween so we decided that a fall wedding (even in Las Vegas) would be so much fun.  He can't wait to have our pictures done at the Conservatory in the Bellagio with all the fall and pumpkins themed flowers and plants.
