Paying Vendors

I just got an e-mail today reminding me that our balance is due for our venue on April 1st. I actually feel relieved that this is going to be paid.

We have other vendors that we have only paid a deposit to (caterer, photog, DJ).

When are you planning on paying off your vendors? Will you wait until the day of the wedding or do it in advance?

I worry about paying everything too soon in case something happens with a vendor, but on the other hand it feels good to know that something is paid off and I don't have to stress about it anymore. I'm very stressed about money.

Re: Paying Vendors

  • I am right there with you! I have already paid off my invitations, photgorapher, flowers, dj and all of my dress essentials. I also asked my venue to compile a price breakdown for my new guest count so that I can save for the maximum amount the venue could cost! I like paying for things in advance and will try and have everything paid off before the wedding day so that we do not have to track down vendors to pay them on the day of the wedding...
  • We're paying everything before the wedding. We're getting married Oct. 27th and we'll probably start writing the big checks Oct. 1st. That way, we're close enough to the wedding if something happens with a vendor, but we're not paying on the wedding day.

  • Most of our contracts require that the vendor be paid in full 2 weeks before the wedding.

  • We're trying to pay things as early as we can too.  We've paid the entire balance of the DJ and well over what we owe at this point to the photographer.  We're paying off the church in May and hope to have the limo paid off by then as well.

The only big amount I want left to pay is the reception balance.  My fiance does not want us paying that until it's due, because he's doesn't want any discrepancies on what we owe.  But we do have a separate account just for that money.

  • I think the caterer (which is separate from our venue) is the only one I want to hold out on. The only reason being that we won't have an exact amount to pay until we can give a head count.

Otherwise, I think I'll feel better paying everything off sooner than later. Glad I'm not the only one feeling that way.

  • Most of my vendors require full payment by either 30 days or 2 weeks prior to the wedding. A few (like the MUA, transporation company and photographer) are day-of so my DOC will be in charge of handing those out.

  • My venue/caterer has a payment schedule. Deposit was due the middle of march. 50% of estimated balance due in July and the remainder due w/i 30 days after the wedding.

All the other vendors are due 2 weeks before the wedding, but we will write cheques once we have the full amounts over the summer.

  • We are planning on paying most of them ahead of time or at least make payments to reduce the amount owed by the due dates.

  • I can't stand the thought of it not being paid off so FI and I have already paid off a lot of our vendors. The ceremony/reception venue, photographer, DJ are all completely paid for.  We still owe a little over 600 betweem chair cover rentals, chair rentals for the ceremony, and cermony musician. We have puirchased all the supplies for our favors, and centerpieces as well as Save the Date's. Invitations, and postage. I know I could be screwing myself by paying all this off early, but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if we hadn't.
