Crate and Barrel Question

Hi ladies,

I am so surprised!  I just got home from work and there were 2 Crate and Barrel boxes outside our house!  I'm just shocked because the shower invites only went out on Friday!   FI and I want to bring any presents that come between now and the shower to the shower to open. It's not that far away that guests will be wondering if their presents arrived.  Anyway, does anyone know how the boxes come packed?  If I open the outside box, will their be another box inside?  (The boxes just seem so big for there not to be another one.)  Also, do you know if there is a packing slip that would ruin the surprise?

Thanks!

Re: Crate and Barrel Question

  • Hey,

This is a really good question.   I have had gifts arrive 2 ways - one where you open the box and the item is just there for you unless it comes inside another protective box.  The other way is for another box to be inside that is tied up with ribbon.   This means the person had it gift wrapped.

For most of my gifts, the ones that were not wrapped were from peopel who I knew could not make it to the shower so we went ahead and opened them and sent a thank you card.  For the one that was wrapped, it was from someone we knew was coming to the shower so I gave it to my MOH for opening at that event.

It is confusing once the boxes start arriving because it is not always easy to determine whether to open fully or not.

    Good luck!

  • I might just leave it as it is just in case.

  • I would leave it just in case. Like a PP said, I also received two crate and barrel gifts to our house, one did have a gift box inside the main box, one did not. It depends what the person chooses at checkout - to gift wrap or not!

  • Most of our C+B gifts came in the large black and white box and then wrapped -- our china and flatware came this way, no second box. For small electrics (like our blender), it was a box inside the box, but the second you opened the outer box, you saw what was inside. There is a packing slip also. If you want to be surprised, I'd leave them as they are.

  • Thought I'd give you all an update!

We had a good friend stop by last night who is always asking what he can do to help with the wedding!  So when he asked last night, we finally had a job for him!  We had him open the boxes to see if there were other boxes inside.  One box had a second wrapped box inside.  He said the other had a lot of packing things in it, so we wouldn't be able to see what the present was, but that there was no separate box!  Now I'm going to bring both gifts to my parents' house so they can be opened at the shower.  It's hard having them in my house and constantly seeing them!  Out of sight, out of mind!
