October 2012 Weddings

Holy wedding clutter!!!

Seriously, I have accumulated SO MUCH stuff for this wedding. Charger plates, welcome box junk, candy buffet stuff, centerpiece stuff, votives, fabric, etc., etc., etc.  It's impossible to keep it all seperated and organized. I have tons of boxes and no idea what is in each one. Mostly because fi will take the stuff and just shove it in a box to get it "put away." I need a wedding merchandise organization overhaul. It's out of control! Anyone else feel the same way? What the best way to manage this? Maybe I should get organized now so I'm not overwhelmed come wedding time.

Re: Holy wedding clutter!!!

  • I feel ya' on this. We live in a one bedroom apartment. We have a lot of stuff in storage in my parent's basement and their spare room. We also have stuff in my closet, on our dining room table, the computer desk and hanging off of one of our dining room chairs. My DIY self stuff is the worst b/c I constantly am getting it back out. I finally just got sick of putting it away (and I sort of ran out of room too). I said just the other day, I will be so happy when our apartment can truely be clean again.   :)

  • I know, we have the same problem. I cannot wait for the wedding to be here so I can be rid of it all.

One of my goals this weekend is to find a better way to organize it and free up some space in our bedroom. We also live in a one bedroom condo so space is at a premium.

  • I'm in the same boat.  We have a dedicated office and I have the majority of the items in that closet, but it's getting really hard to get in and out of there.  I need to take the time to organize it a little better and I've even considered getting some shelfs put in there just so I have more vertical storage.  Right now, everything is on the floor just piled on top of eachother.  The DIY stuff can definitely make a huge mess and take up a lot of space.  That's why I try to have DIY weekends where I get several things done at once.

This definitely happens at our house too!  I haven't found a good system either.  I'm hoping to spend some time after Easter getting it all organized.

  • I totally feel your pain. Our hall linen closet has no linen...just all of our assorted wedding stuff! Candy bar vases, centerpiece vases, chair sashes and covers, my Xyron machine...and more stuff I'm sure I've forgotten. It's starting to overflow!
  • I've started to organize by space "These things to to the church" (then boxes for cermony items and decorations, etc)  "these things are for the reception" (bring to the reception hall day before, bring to reception hall day of), these things are for the decorator (centerpieces, etc.)  these things are for the bridal party (gifts, etc), these things are for the groom, these things are for the bride (shoes, veil, etc)

Each box (Actually plastic tub) is stacked with a huge label on the end so any new items we buy just go right into the tub and we add to the label what we've added (the label has the title and the inventory of the tub)...

wow..after typing this I sound a little OCD :|  lol
  • I was just sitting here staring at ALLLLL of this mess on my desk, then my dining room table (that has turned into wedding table of junk) thinking I need to be as organized as I was when I started hoarding all of this wedding stuff.  I have vases, stuff for bathroom baskets, bridesmaid/groomsmen day of kits, TONS of paper for diy stuff, mountains of tulle for the tutus I'm making for the flower girls, and so much more stuff, I'm embarrassed to keep going.
I had plastic storage containers all done, light in one, glass in another, misc, diy.  Now its just everything is everywhere.
Next weekend I have a good deal of time with nothing to do so I hope to get the rest of this stuff organized.

  • We just moved into a 100 year old house with 2 "closets." One of these closets is so small that the bar runs front to back instead of left to right because no hanger could fit on them normally. Due to this all of my wedding boxes are in the corner (and quickly expanding) of our spare room. I pretty much know where everything is, which makes FI and other relatives look at me like I'm the next Rainman when I start moving boxes and come out with the one containing what I want. I have a few boxes marked on the side with what is in them but mostly ones with newer purchases that I stuffed somewhere else to downsize. I feel like such a hoarder I can't wait for October to be here so I can start moving it out ASAP after the wedding.
