Ceremony readings

Would it be weird to not have a reading during our ceremony?  I don't really know of any readings that we would like that aren't typical (i.e. Corinthians, which I don't want).  Plus, I just feel it kinda breaks up the ceremony in an awkward way to just have someone come up and randomly read some passage and then sit back down.  I feel like if we did readings, it would just be for the sake of putting in readings just to have them but I don't want that.

I'd rather just skip the readings altogether but wasn't sure if this was weird to do and if you would notice, or think it was odd, if you were a guest.  Thoughts?

Re: Ceremony readings

  • I am not doing any readings in my ceremony. We were trying to keep in non-denominational so  non were picked.

  • It's totally fine NOT to have readings.  At my first wedding, we didn't.  Still debating if we're going to have them at this wedding or not.
  • We are having non-religious readings as the options our officiant provided were beautiful.  If you wanted a reading you could find a nice poem or sweet sentiment about marriage.

  • WE aren't having any readings either... it is going to be a bilingual service as is and that adds time so we are skipping it...  :D do what feels right for you and Fi it is your wedding after all... :D
  • We also are doing a non-religious reading called "The Union" by Robert Fulghum.  I really liked it and it fit my FI and I.  As for if you have to, I don't think you have to do anything you don't want to in your wedding.

  • We will have the officiant do the "readings".  We are not having people come up and do them.
