Chocolate Question

The favors for our wedding are chocolate truffles wrapped up in a Tiffany box.  My mom is taking care of the favors and is going to the candy store today. Last night, we were discussing what flavor the truffles should be.  FI and I both say dark chocolate with some sort of filling, my mom says it must be milk chocolate because "not many people like dark chocolate".  I think that a lot of people like dark chocolate and that my mom is full of it LOL.  So, Knotties what do you think?

Re: Chocolate Question

  • I think that more people like milk chocolate, but my FI prefers dark.  Will it be one truffle per guest?  If not, maybe you have one of each in the box.

  • I won't eat milk chocolate period. Dark chocolate I love.

Ditto PP, or somehow mark the boxes (colored ribbon) so people can trade dark for milk if they choose. I love dark chocolate so I'd go for that but I know several people who prefer the lighter/milkier chocolates.

<div>At first we thought there'd be 2 mini truffles in the box, and we were going to do 1 milk and 1 dark.  But, the tiffany style box that we're using doesn't really fit the 2 mini truffles.  So we're going with 1 large truffle in each box (the candy story also said that this is their most popular favor).  Every place setting will have a favor at it, so every guest gets their own favor.  Best part is, the candy store is putting all of the favors together for us so we don't have to order the truffles, boxes, ribbon, and assemble ourselves!  </div><div>
</div><div>Maybe they'll have a dark chocolate truffle with a milk chocolate filling (or vice versa) and we can compromise LOL!</div>

  • can you do half and half?  People can swap amongst themselves if there are both and they dont like what they got..........Not that anyone would ever complain about something they were given....lol....

  • i love dark chocolate, but only if its good quality.  i also love milk chocolate!
  • i think for the bulk pricing we have to get them all the same...so we're limited to 1 flavor.

Are you adding a little thank you tag or anything?  Maybe you could do a stamp or something.  I would still probably do both flavors and people could trade.  Ultimately I wouldn't fret too much.  Most people will eat either, and if they don't, I bet their spouse will!

  • If you're limited to one flavor I'd go with milk chocolate. Most people who like dark chocolate also like milk but it doesn't usually work the other way. It's best to be safe, unless you want the extras that people leave behind b/c they don't like it.

Silly question, could you do half milk and half dark?  Then if people have a preference they can switch?

Edit: Missed the above comment. LOL
That being said.... I'm not a big chocolate eater, so I'd just take it home and share it with someone who likes it, though I think dark chocolate is more elegant?  So if it was me I'd do dark chocolate because it seems more special, richer, fancier? :-)

  • I LOVE chocolate, but only of the milky variety. We went to a wedding a few weeks ago and they had a white chocolate favor. I just gave mine to FI - he'll eat anything lol.

  • I'm a huge fan of dark chocolate, but I'll also eat milk chocolate.  I think that your compromise of outside being one type and the filling another type sounds excellent.

Whichever way you choose, I love the idea!

  • I love dark chocolate but will tolerate milk if I have too.  FI only eats dark.  I know lots of people who are dark chocolate only.

  • I love, love, love dark chocholate.  But as crazy as it sounds, your mother is correct...there are people out there who actually do not like dark.  FI is one of them...jeez, can't believe I'm still gonna marry him.  lol

Majority of people who like dark, are chocolate people to begin with, so I would get milk choc to be safe.

  • I voted for dark but CFM has a very good point. So I'm going to change my answer to milk. Oh and if you "give in" to your Mom she will be happier :)
  • Thanks for your opinions ladies.

I really don't care either way, I just posted the poll for fun.  FI and I are big dark chocolate lovers, but if she feels so strongly about this I'm not going to argue.  There's way more important things in life than whether my wedding favor is dark chocolate or milk chocolate.

  • I decided instead of doing truffles to do a solid chocolate coin so that I could give everybody two, one milk and one dark, so I didn't have to deal with this exact thing! Personally I like both kinds, but most of the people I know don't like dark chocolate, so if I had to pick only one I'd do milk.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • I don't discriminate against chocolate I love it all lol! That being said, I'd go with milk, I know a lot of people who don't eat dark.
