Bummed

So I know I'm a little behind but I went to look for my wedding dress today and was so upset that Alfred Angelo is so expensive! I have a small budget (also I can't justify spending a lot on a dress when we are saving for a house), and when I went today they had nothing in the range of my budget. The stylist was not helpful even after I told her what I was looking for. Luckily my sister was with me because I am not an aggresive person so I would have not said no thanks to any of the dresses they showed me. I did stick to my budget amount though so that is good.

Next week I have an appointment with DB so hopefully that will go better. Was so looking forward to today too.

  • I'm sorry that you had to go through that today. On the bright side though, I got my dress from DB and I am really happy with it. I fell in love with this amazing dress at Solutions Bridal and seriously almost got it. This dress was way over my budget but I loved it so much that I didn't want to leave it in the store. Luckily, like you, I had someone with me that could talk me out of it. I then went to DB and found the dress of my dreams. It is very similar to the other dress as well. I was going to rule out DB because I knew a lot of there dresses are generic (meaning a lot of people get the same dresses). I know that there are brides who have worn the same dress as me on their wedding day but guess what, this is my dress and I will where it on MY wedding day. It's special to me and will always be. As long as you love the dress you are walking down the isle with, it doesn't matter where you get it from.

My first dress shopping experience didn't go well either. they have some great dresses at DB and I was stuck between 2 choices I had there. I had a good shopping experience there, but I ended up finding my dress at a different store. Good luck next week!

  • That's too bad :(. I have an AA that was within my price limit and I am absolutely in love! I would have gone to DB first if there was one near me, as I've heard fabulous things about them. Good luck!

Budgets are tough! I definitely could have gone crazy and way out of my budget. But, I went to DB, mostly b/c I promised FI to look for less expensive options, and found my dress! It's perfect and was under $500. They have some beautfiul things, just like any bridal shop.

  • Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at AA. I too had a bad experience with them too. I told them my budget, told them my absolute max(since their dresses were expensive), and the style I liked, then they only brought me one dress. There was another dress that I had liked so they brought me the shorter version of it since they didnt have the exact dress, but found out I didnt like the material of the dress on me. So all together they showed me two dresses. I liked the dress they brought, but I felt like something was missing from it, so when we asked to see other dresses, they told me "this is what I had asked for, and they didnt have anything else that fit what I wanted" and then proceeded to tell me that as my dress. The only thing I told them I wanted was flowly.. most dresses are flowly but apparently they only had ONE dress that fit that description. Plus the dress was over my budget, it was below my absolute max(not by much and didnt include alterations) and they just kept saying well its in your range.
I did go to DB, figuring I wouldnt find much there but after having a dressing room full of options, I found MY dress, and I love it. I have seen local photographers show brides who have worn my dress, my dress is also shown in the DB commercials, but it doesnt look the same on them as it does on me. Plus nobody will be thinking about another bride who wore that dress when they are at your wedding.
Good Luck on your dress hunt!

Sorry to hear about that.  Have you considered getting your dress through oncewed.com?  They will be used but you may be able to get your dream dress for a fraction of the cost.  Not sure if going the used route is an option but just thought I'd throw that out there.  Good luck.  I'm sure you'll find something you love and in your budget!

  • I got my dress from DB last week! I was really impressed with their selection and they had so many dresses within my budget. They are also having a sale so almost every dress is marked down! Good luck! I am sure you will find what you are looking for!!!!
