Parent Gifts

So I really don't know what to do about parent gifts. FI and I have both unexpectedly found ourselves in the unfortuante situation of being unemployed (we're living with our parents, and will be after the wedding too ahhhh!!! but that's a story for another day). We can't really afford much in the way of parent gifts.

BUT I did see bath & body works has candles on sale. Both our mothers love fall scented candles so I was thinking of buying our parents candles with a nice holder and including some cheesey little saying or something. I was thinking about something like the following since our rehearsal dinner is fall themed:

"You were the first to fall for us, then we fell in love with each other. Thank you blah blah blah...."

Too cheesey? Not appropraite? Better ideas? I'm was just trying to incorporate fall and I don't know..haha

  • I think that's a nice way to honour them without spending too much money.

  • I like the idea.  I think that it is really creative.  After the wedding you could always give them a framed picture from the wedding as a keepsake.

  • If you have time (which none of us do these days), shutterfly photobooks keep putting out  groupons for cheap photobooks.  Travelzoo just had a coupon for a free 8x8 book (it expired just this week).  I put a hardback 20-page book together for my sister of pics of us through the years and it cost me $8.50 in shipping/taxes.

Books like these with pics of you and your parents and FI and his parents could go over well.

  • I agree with everyone before me that your candle idea is a GREAT idea! I also agree with amyelise25. Shutterfly seems to ALWAYS have discounts on their photobooks, so that would be a nice keepsake for your parents. Or, if your photographer isn't providing an album for the parents as part of your package, you could always put together a photobook on Shutterfly with wedding pics once you get them and give your parents a card on the Wedding Day saying you'll be giving them a book of some of your wedding pics later on.

  • Cute idea!  I was just in Bath and Body Works yesterday smelling the candles :)  I love the fall scents!  I almost got them as a part of my BM gifts but found something different.
For my parent gift (just my dad), I am taking his and my mom's wedding day picture that has faded and become discolored and get it restored.  I will then put it in a nice frame and give him a blank frame that will eventually hold my wedding picture.  I don't know what FI is doing for his parents yet.  I actually made a photo book of our e-pics from picaboo that I was going to use as our guest book but it was way too small.  We may give that to FI parents as I know his mom would love it.
