Photographers

Hello! I was wondering what range of prices people have found for photographers. We have a guy we love but the package is $3,100 minimum + travel expenses. That seems way high to me but I haven't done much research in this area yet.

It depends on what you are looking for. When we were shopping for photographers, we were looking at packages that included an engagement portrait session, 6 hours day-of coverage with a photog and assistant (not necessarily a 2nd shooter), and all image rights. Quotes ranged from $1850-2500, for this coverage.

I just recently started researching photographers. But  I've been finding most of them starting around $3,000 too, which I think it rather pricey as well.

Yeah, it seems pricey but it is the going rate here in the DC area for an experienced wedding photographer.  Our photographer charges about $4K, which includes e-session, wedding day time of 6 hours, all images, retouched prints, album, copyrights, and travel.

We found our's for about 25% lower  than $3.1K & he provides a 1st shooter skilled 2nd shooter with the package for a full day with all rights to 100% of the pictures.

No other books are included but the engagement shoot & a canvas is.
He used to be a white house photog & we really liked the photojournalistic style

If you search the DC message board for "photographer" and read through some of the threads you'll find cheaper ones. I did that the other day and got a list of about 6-8 photographers people had reccomended that are a lot less than $3K. I'm going to look through their portfolios and then go from there.

    Good luck!!

Thanks so much for your help girls! It sounds like his price is pretty comprable but there are for sure cheaper options out there if we're looking for it. Thank you!!

i highly recommend my photographer, hino banzon. i'm not sure what his rates are now (he's probably increased them since last year) but when we got his rates last february/march, his highest level package included 12 hours, 2 photographers, engagement shoot, all rights to the photos on dvd, and a few prints for $2300.

this is an incredible price when you think about the level of coverage and when you see the quality of his work. his style is photojournalistic, modern, clean, artsy - just as good, if not better than some of the more expensive photographers who we also saw that started at $3K plus.

i can't imagine that he would have increased his rates THAT much, but i would recommend contacting him to see.

www.hinofoto.com for his site, http://www.fatimaandpercy.com/index.cfm?fa=photo&albumid=141790&type=display for our engagement photos.

when youre shopping for your photographer, be sure to compare apples to apples. what all is included in the pkg that is offered along with the amount of experience that the photog is bringing to the table. while you might find a great deal because someone is trying to "build their portfolio", remember it's the biggest day of your life. is the photographer insured? have a current biz license? your wedding photography is a big investment. it's the one thing that you will have long after the event. g'luck to ya!!!!

We're excited about our photographer.  He has packages ranging from $800 (we got this one) to $3200 depending on what you want/need, and all of them come with dvds and photo rights.  http://www.torrephotography.com/

I love my photographer! VERY resonable and less than $3k! She has all different packages, again depending on what you need or want. You get a DVD and full rights as well. http://www.heatherzphotography.com/

    hi!
    i'm actually a bride to be & a photographer.
all this package business can be edited to your taste.

you should just figure out what you want & negotiate with the photographer.

    i've shot weddings from $400-$2500.
there are so many photographers out there....
awesome ones that shoot for nothing & more bad ones that shoot for an arm & a leg.
those are usually ones with an MBA, not an MFA!

I agree with hatnimlee! I lucked out and found a really reasonable photographer that was just starting out and her pictures are great and even looks better than the higher priced photographers!!
