I'm getting married at St. John's too! So funny. I see you are in New York...I was in NY for 8 years, moved back here for a job, and am moving back to NYC after the wedding.

Small world! St. John's is gorgeous, right? I just finished setting my ceremony with my family priest, but I haven't contacted the priest there in months and haven't yet contacted music coordinator. Is she easy to deal with?

Crazy coincidence about NY, too! I've lived in NY for 7 years (moved here after college, stayed here for law school), but plan to move following the wedding. Backwards!

  • Yes! I love St. John's. My grandmother went there, and I always wanted to have my wedding there. I have a family priest doing my cereomy too. Father John is always very pleasant, and very quick to respond. Also, if you don't know him yet—Brother James is literally one of my top 5 favorite people in the world!

I met with the music coordinator, Annette lat week after mass (when she likes to have her meetings—so be prepared for that). I knew what songs I wanted, and she okayed htem and wrote them down and gave me her opinions and suggestions. It was pretty harmless. She will not let you have any popular songs during the ceremony, but you can have 3 with words as your guests are seating—we are having The Prayer by Boccelli, the Irish Wedding Song, and In This Very Room. I don't have my whole sheet with me, but I can give the songs we picked if you want, just let me know.

Oh, and if you have the choice—you DEFINITELY want the guy cantor!

  • This is so helpful! Thank you! I will definitely try to get the male cantor!

I'll be sure to contact the music coordinator soon - I'm only in town every once in a while, so I try to get my appts all in one weekend and I already have my second dress fitting scheduled for May 19th, so hopefully she would meet with me on the 20th!

We're thinking traditional songs for the ceremony, so I'm sure she'll sign off on them (I even think they're the ones she had listed in the pamphlet). I'd love to see your song choices though! If you'd prefer to PM me, that would work and I will send you my email.

  • Good—I hope your meeting goes great. As you can probably tell, both fiance and I come from big Irish families, hence all the Irish songs!
