outside caterers allowed

I'm pretty new to the planning stage -- I've been looking at reception sites and most of them don't allow outside caterers... My sister works for one and I'd like to give them business, but it looks like I'm limited! I've only just begun to look, but I was curious if anyone else has experienced this kind of difficulty. OR if you've found a good list of places that do allow outside caterers. My top choice for location just changed their rules for 2010 and no longer allow outsiders :-(Even if I love the location, I'd rather love the food. People remember if they were fed well more than if they liked the location.

I think most of the MNCPPC properties allow you to bring in licensed caterers.  We were married at Seneca Creek Lodge PG county: www.pgparks.com Mont county:  www.wehavethewhere.org

Not sure where you're looking, but a lot of VA wineries allow outside caterers although Hillsborough a popular choice does not. Also, Fairfax Historic Homes allows you to bring in outside caterers, but I think they have a max of people around 120 or so. Let us know where you are looking and what you are looking for and I'm sure people can toss some more recommendations your way.

I looked at a few that allow outside caters. All in VA... where we are getting married - Briar Patch B&B in Middleburg also looked at Rose Hill Manor in Leesburg and their sister property Oak Hill Manor allows outside caterers too.

I second the Carnegie Institute for Science, and it is such a beautiful building.  It is worth looking into for sure.

Mine is going to be at Top of the Town... they have a list of caterers, if the caterer you want to use isn't on the list they charge $200 to interview them.  If there's no problem, then you can use the outside caterer.  This is an annoying additional step, but an option none the less :)

The Knights of Columbus of North Arlington lets you bring in your own caterer if its something that they can't make. Their definition is kind of loose, so they let me bring in my own BBQ because they don't have a smoker on site. Plus, they're pretty inexpensive. I think the Elks Lodge in Fairfax might also let you bring in your own caterer.

    D. Stefano...i totally agree!! i've been planning mine for almost 2 years now...and i'm so in love with a venue that allows me to bring in my own catering company. i might be going with Oxon Hill Manor in oxon hill maryland or the Newton White Mansion..or the PG Ballroom..or some venues in Virginia..you just have to some serious research!
