In the news: Interracial couple denied marriage license

Hi Knotties, At The Knot offices, we're all discussing the story about the interracial couple who was denied a marriage license. If you haven't heard the story, read it here: http://tinyurl.com/8jky8g What we're really curious about is whether or not discrimination is more common in wedding planning than we thought. Have you or anyone you know faced discrimination (racial, gender, budget, etc.) while planning your wedding? Click on the link below to take our poll. http://tinyurl.com/yfacur9

That's funny. On The Knot article about it, it says you are disgusted by such bigotry - and rightfully so. But where is The Knot article about how disgusted you are with the bigotry faced by same-sex couples EVERY DAY who are denied marriage licenses? Or does The Knot only get disgusted by certain kinds of bigotry?

I wasn't sure how to answer this one.  We didn't face any discrimination at all from anyone we dealt with in the wedding process--officiant, synagogue, reception venues, photographer, hair/make-up person, etc.  The discrimination we faced was from the people we couldn't deal with--e.g., the State of Maryland, which would not grant us a marriage license or allow us to get married there, and the federal government, which continues to treat us as not married.  And unfortunately, that type of discrimination isn't even illegal.

Well I don't have to tell you this, 2dBride, but illegal or not, it's still discrimination and it's still bigotry. The legality of it doesn't change that.
