Blocking rooms

There are only higher end hotels near our reception site.  I've blocked some rooms where the groom and I will be staying, $209/nite.  I do want to give our guests a less expensive option, but the only place is a Comfort Inn 20 mins away by  metro.  Should I try to block some rooms there too?

Thanks!

Re: Blocking rooms

  • Where is your venue? Perhaps the ladies on here can provide other thoughts...
  • I would check with Kimpton Hotels.
    There are many locations.
I blocked rooms for my wedding next week and they gave us a great deal!
More than 1/2 off of the list price.
  • We've rented out a bar near Union Station.  The closest hotels that I've found are the Hyatt, Hilton, W, and Phoenix.  I expect all the rooms in that area to be around $200 but nothing for less in that vicinity......

  • Check Arlington- I know the Hyatt in Rosslyn has good rates- they also have a Palomar (Kimpton), Holiday Inn and Marriott in the neighborhood.
  • Blocking rooms is a nice touch and probably more necessary for a prime season wedding. If your wedding isn't during the summer, remember you don't have to take care of all of your guests all of the time.  It is perfectly acceptable to suggest a few options then let go and let them.
  • We're going to be at Union Station and I've spoken to two of the hotels already - their rates are not going to be below $200.  Our wedding is in May and I'm told that will be around graduation time, so I don't know how much luck I'll have in find reasonable room rates and a location that is easily accessible by metro.
