Inexpensive Bakery Recommendation

Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive bakery in the NoVa area? We aren't big dessert people but still want a relatively traditional cake for the wedding. Something simple that tastes good. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out Margie at Artistic Cake Creations.  They are based on WV.  However, they get uniformly high reviews, and their cakes (even after adding delivery charges to the DC area) tend to be less expensive than cakes made locally.

You may want to try Unique Bakery in Fairfax... I'm getting mine there however my wedding is in 31 days so I can't say for sure the outcome but the price and tasteing was great!

Can anyone give me a sense of what constitutes an "inexpensive bakery"? I am trying to decide whether to get the cake from my caterer or to get the cake from a bakery. Does $6.25 per slice for a ceremonial cake and $4 per slice for the additional sheet layers sound reasonable?

Hmmm. After looking at the websites of those bakeries above, my prices seem more expensive. But those websites have only the basic prices (no fondant decorations or delivery charges).

I'm not sure if this will work for you.  We're going with Oh, What a Cake! located in Columbia, MD.  She travels.  Good luck!

I am planning to go with Victoria's Cakery in Fairfax.  The cakes are very simple but taste great and prices range from $2.25 -$5 a slice (buttercream frosting).  Lemon Tulip cakes is also really reasonable and good, but check with your venue...it's a home-based business and my venue had a problem with that for liability insurance reasons.

    Hope this helps!

I'm using Margie at Artistic Cake Creations!  Hers come out to about $2 a slice, and with wedding cakes, you get any flavor cake and any flavor filling for no extra charge (can even do different flavors for each layer).  We met with her in January for a cake tasting, and everything she brought was soooooo delicious.  We're really excited about working with her!

At unique bakery I think it is $4.50 a slice for mixed tiers of choc and vanilla with buttercream and fresh strawberry filling. The outside is also buttercream b/c I think it tastes better.  Delivery charge to DC was like $65 I think.  Also, he bakes and sets up the cakes himself so he has a vested interest to ensure everything goes off without a hitch! good luck!
