Affordable Hair and Makup (is that possible in NOVA????)- help please!

Hi there,

I'm not sure how you girls feel, but I am taken aback by how much bridal updo's/makeup costs around here.  In all of my friends' weddings, hair has not been more than $80-90 for the bride....and they have all had BEAUTIFUL hair! My bridesmaids were shocked with the prices and the fact that my trial run costs just as much!  We are paying for our wedding ourselves and I just can't pay what some of these people are asking.

Does anyone know of affordable hair/make-up....but without sacrificing quality?  I have no preference whether they come to me or I go to the salon, but I live in the Ashburn area so any salons need to be close to there.

Thanks so much for your help!

I definitely think your best bet is to find a salon - I'm using Crystal Jo for make-up and she's very reasonable -
bride - trial is $50, wedding day is $75
all others - $45 day of

I am hoping to book Carla from PR in Old Town for my hair - their updo's range between $70-100 depending on how intricate and difficult the style. She is part of a salon, so I think that's why the prices are much lower.

I have 7 BMs and wanted to make sure no one got lost going/coming so I'm having both of them come to me the day of.

Have you tried going to the salon you get your haircut at? There's almost always someone great with updos who could do everyone, or even travel.

I had a friend who use to work at the Stila makeup counter at Dulles Mall in Nordstrom and some of the girls at the various counters use to do freelance work, such as weddings.  That could be a less expensive route to go.

This salon in Leesburg is great, http://www.bellecheveux.com/, not sure about pricing for updo's tho..  I use to go there when I lived in Ashburn and my SIL has been going there for about 3 years.

I was also totally taken aback by the hair and makeup prices I was finding when I was looking for stylists to come to the hotel.  I've found a salon that is more reasonable, and I think it will be a fun morning when my bridal party and I "take over" the salon!  I'm in Alexandria, so can't help you out with a specific recommendation, but I wanted to let you know that I feel your pain and I think going to a salon is the most affordable option!

I am using Kelli Fink and I am so excited. She has done my ahir and make-up for other weddings that I have been in and I know for a fact that she is awesome. She has a menu on her website kellifink.com. It is a little higher than 80 or 90 but, I have found that she still isnt as expensive as some of the other hair people I have seen. She travels to NOVA, too. Good luck finding someone! I hope that will help!
