$375 for wedding dress alterations?

I was just quoted $375 for alterations to my wedding dress which needs to have the illusion sleeves, bodice and back of the skirt taken in, a bustle added and the tulle train made detachable. Is $375 a reasonable amount for that work? The estimate is from a DC custom dry cleaning business that also does alterations.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me. I paid $65 for some very minor fixes and having a bustle put in (which, mine didn't need anything more than a hoop and button). Considering that you're having a bustle added and making the train detachable, both which are fairly major pieces of work, and having everything taken in (and if you have beading on your dress, or if it's constructed in a way that's difficult to take in that always becomes more difficult/costs extra), I'd say that's a very reasonable price =)

    Thanks for the input!
It's a fairly simple gown of organa and tulle, no beading. I want a French bustle and originally didn't ask for it to be hemmed but am now wondering if it should be since it  drags slightly on the ground. So that would be more money I'm sure.

Sounds reasonable! My place said they normally don't exceed $300 but I know a girl who got an alteration package for $750 in Georgetown.

I would check with either Angie Cavallero or Estee Livioco, both of whom are independent seamstresses known for their excellent alterations work.  Angie is in Northern Virginia, and Estee is in Gaithersburg.  Both of them typically have lower prices for alterations than the salons.  Here is a link to an article with contact information for both of them.

I think that sounds reasonable. My dress needs to be hemmed, bust line fitted and a french bustle put it and it's $300. Yours requires a little more work than mine, sounds like. I took mine to Fashion Dream in Arlington (Yelp it). Doesn't hurt to get a couple more quotes for your peace of mind, though. GL!

I'm using Angie, but I don't have as many alterations that need to be done.--She's doing the hem (which is beaded) and bustle for $250. The  price you were quoted may be reasonable considering how many alterations you need done. It couldn't hurt to get a second quote though.

An experienced seamstress is very important, you don't want any errors

She is experienced and more importantly, she does not work out of her home, so she is insured and won't disappear overnight.  Its a real business for her

    Best of luck to you!!

my alterations are 350 for everything including the bustle. two fittings down, one more to go. Yolanda at Distinctive Designs is wonderful. Two matron of honor dresses, mother of the bride dresses and MY DRESS=$750, with multiple fittings. She is great.
