Hair and make-up costs?

Ladies,

I am having a hard time finding affordable hair & make-up artists.  So now I am wondering if I should increase the budget for this.  Can you let me know what you are spending for you hair and make-up?  Price for you, and price for mom's/bridesmaids?

Thanks, and if you have any recommendations that would be great as well.

I am using Carla Pressley...she is charging $150 for BM who want hair AND makeup and $90 for only one service.  For me, its $300, which includes a $50 travel fee.

I am using Kelli Fink - www.kellifink.com, she is coming to us and is not charging a travel fee.  The price for bridal hair is 100, makeup is 50 (bridal), its 80 per bridesmaid for hair, and 30 if they want makeup.  My mothers hair she is charging 50 for (not an updo, just blow out and some curling.), her make up is 30 as well.  I cant afford to pay for each of the girls and she said most brides dont, she allows each girl to pay for their own, she accepts cash, check, and visa.  She did my sister in laws hair for her wedding, and mine as well ( I was a bridesmaid) she does amazing work.  Oh and trial is seperate, its 100 for hair and makeup trial combined.

We used someone we found on Craigslist, and it was $60 pp total for hair and make-up.  We also got a free trial, and she came to our location on the day.  However, I suspect that's way below the going rate.

I was using Crystal Jo, who accidentally overbooked herself and now booked Carolyn Barry for me instead.

Crystal Jo's prices were very reasonable though.
    Trial- $50
    Wedding Day makeup - $75
    Bridesmaids - $45
    Individual Eyelashes - $20
Travel - $20 pr/hr from Annapolis, Md ( there are no charges for travel if wedding location is within a 30 mile radius of Annapolis)

We're actually traveling into the city to Bang!  at the Verizon Center.  It's where I normally get my hair cut, and it's a super cute salon.  The girl that does my hair is even coming in on her day off to do mine.  We're booking 3 total stylists for me, 5 bridesmaids, and 2 moms to rotate through.  Their prices are very reasonable for this area, and I'm actually excited to get out of the hotel for a bit.

They've been super nice with all of it.  We're going to bring in champagne and orange juice for mimosas as well as some breakfast items.  They even said if anyone didn't want to have their hair professionally done, they could use the stations there to do it themselves!

As for makeup, I'm doing my own.

I'm using Perry Warren at Frizzles in Springfield; it's $150 for hair and makeup, and $100 for hair or makeup, as long as you have at least three people.  I just had my trial and it looked good, plus I really like him.  On the other hand, I'm not doing anything super complicated, just curls and a half-up/half-down look.

I haven't booked anyone yet but I've definitely been asking for quotes from a few highly recommended vendors. I'm seeing bridal makeup costs of $115-180 depending on your makeup artist. Bridal hair has been ranging from $125-325 depending on stylist.

Trial Makeup or Hair tends to be around $50-100 (very few cases of it being thrown in for free), and wedding party (BMs, mothers) makeup or hair on the wedding day tend to range from $65-$90.  I hope that helps give you an idea as far as budgeting goes, but each

I got right on the knot for new recs....that was the SAME DAY you posted about not being able to find anyone...I BURST into tears and was like, there is NO ONE to do hair and makeup on July 10 in the whole DC area!

I think that hair and make-up is rediculously overpriced!! I found someone called gina brown who I am going for a trial today - but she lives near manassas, but will travel on the wedding day. She's been kind of hard to pin down for a trial so i'm concerned about the actual wedding date. But she is only charging 150 for hair and makeup. And 50 for each BM hair.

I also have a trial at eden's international salon - kind of pricey but the cheapest I have found. More or less I've heard anything from 50 to 300 for hair from people i've spoken to, and 75-300 for makeup.

Was even thinking about going to Aveda in Gallery Place - updo is $30, makeup is $10, but i haven't checked it out yet.

i'll let everyone know how my trial goes.

I used Jody Rusnak...I paid $265 for my hair and makeup (which included my hair and make-up run thru before the wedding at my house & hair & make-up "touch ups" after the ceremony)...my BM's were $145 for hair and make-up.  We also paid a $50.00 travel fee to have her come to our wedding location for the day.

If your interested, here is Jody's Contact info:

Thank you all!  I have contacted Jody, Kelli and Crystal.

I too have found prices to be so much higher than anticipated.  I really appreciate all of your recommendations.  I'll let you know who I end up with!

I am using Kelli Fink and I am so excited!! She has done 4 different weddings that I have been in and I cant wait for her to do my hair and make-up!! I have never gotten so many compliments than when she did my hair and make-up for my best friend's wedding! Her and her team are hilarious and so much fun to work with. I am excited that she had our date available, I know her business has gotten a lot bigger in the last year. I was so nervous that she wouldnt be able to do it.  Good luck finding someone and contact Kelli if you havent yet!!

Haha, I'm thinking of just going to a salon and asking for an up-do.  They'll do something similar to what I was thinking of, but without the word "bridal" attached, the price should be about 1/3 lower.  I love how vendors jack up the price when they hear the word WEDDING.

You can checkout thepaletteforyou.com for makeup & hair services. The prices are reasonable and the work is really good too.
    Good Luck!
