Small band/DJ recommendations?

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to these boards, so thanks in advance for your help!  :)

I'm trying to figure out the music for my reception, and I'm not sure what to do, and would love recommendations--both for the band vs DJ question and for specific bands or DJs you recommend.  My feeling is that the space we have is a bit on the small side, but I still want some dancing.  I like the idea of having a classy small-sized group to play--someone suggested a jazz trio to me--but I don't know if a group this size will be able to accommodate the music we'd like (mostly oldies!).  Another option would be to just go with a DJ, though my mother has been pretty vocal that a DJ would be cheesy.  Also I definitely haven't ruled out going the iPod route, but I worry about the flow of things and having it be awkward--anyone have thoughts about this?

Thanks so much!

(Also, on the off chance that anyone is familiar with the space, since this is the DC area board--the reception is in Blake Hall at St. John's Episcopal Church in Georgetown.)

My guests are more of a DJ crowd so I can't help with band rec's but I know a great DJ - he has a huge collection of music, tons of oldies, and he has a complete mobile setup - all he needs is electricity :)  You could send him an email to ask about how much space he would require etc.  His email is bookdjghost@yahoo.com.  You can tell him Lindsay sent you!  Good Luck on your search.

I'm having a jazz trio at my cocktail hour.  The group leader is pretty versatile and knowledgeable about a lot of music.  You can contact him and tell him what you're going for he maybe able to do it.  His name is Tre and his email is hiltonfelton at gmail dot com.

Also, I love our DJ for the reception.  She's into a lot of different music so could definitely do oldies.  She's also not cheesy and is a DJ for several DC clubs so she definitely knows how to get people on the dance floor.  Her name is Erin and can be reached at DJLILE at msn dot com.

Hope this helps!  God luck with your search.
