In a Venue Pickle :(

I'm still in the very early stages of wedding planning but I am having a very difficult time figuring out if the the venues I'm researching are worth the money. I have never even attended a wedding before and am finding myself at a loss when it comes to location and prices. What are some venues that you guys have looked in to, how much were they, and is that a reasonable price for a wedding?

The places that I have looked at seem expensive. . . but am I just not informed and these prices are the norm?

You are asking a vague question.  How much a venue charges depends on a variety of things:

    1. Location
    2. Popularity
    3. All-inclusive
    4. Alcohol
    5. Theme
    6. Time of the year
    7. Number of guests
    8. On-site parking

For example, renting a ballroom in one of the major and nice hotels in midtown is a lot more expensive than renting an events facility room in a small town.

Perhaps if you can tell us what you're looking for, some ideas you wanted, etc. we can help you out.

For what it's worth (comparison-sake)  our venue rental fee was only $1500 (it has increased since we booked) for a winery/vineyard in North Georgia (NOT all-inclusive.)

    Apologies for the vagueness :)

Ok I am having a Mardi Gras themed wedding and reception. I would prefer to have both in the same location. We are thinking late October/ early November of next year. I don't really have a preference for indoor or outdoor I just want it to be beautiful of course. Ballpark number of guests is between 150 and 200. I'd prefer it to not be all inclusive because I have a lot of family and friends pulling in favors for my cake, photography, and catering. Were also going to have a Sunday Wedding because I am a manager at Chick-fil-A and were closed on Sunday so all of my co-workers will be able to attend.

I think that covers most of it :) Thanks again!

Where are you located? There is a place in Roswell called the Roswell River Landing that is very reasonably priced, but I'm not sure if it will hold that many people. Definitely look around on TK to get some ideas.

Me and my FI are staying in Columbus right now. My family lives in McDonough and his lives in Snellville. We arent too picky about location but we will definitely check out the Roswell location :)

You should check out the Piedmont Room/ Park Tavern in Atlanta, the Defoor Centre in Atlanta, Pristine Chapel in Jonesboro, Gala Facility in Marietta, Flint Hill/ The Atrium in Norcross, Little Gardens in Lawrenceville, and The Banquet Hall in Jonesboro.

The cost of your wedding is directly related to your guest count and the day of the week you are having your wedding.

Sundays are usually less expensive, so you may be able to book a more expensive venue in within your budget. The Hazelhurst house is in McDonough...but I don't think a mardi-gras theme would work well there. Your venue really depends on your budget. If you haven't established that yet, I'd reccomend doing so before looking at venues. Good Luck!

Check out The Conservatory at Waterstone in Acworth.  I think it would have the perfect feel for your Mardi Gras theme.  I got married there in May and it was fabulous.  They offer an all-inclusive package (everything but the photographer) but they also rent the space for events so you may be able to just rent the space and bring in your own food, etc.
