Early Planning!

Hello everyone My name is Ollicia and I am 25 years old. I have a confession that may seem a little awkward...Me and my bf have been dating for 1 year and known each other 2 years...We are not engaged and not sure when he will but I am planning in advance lol..I have already set potential date, time, venue and even looked at dresses with no ring...anyone else been there done that or am I alone? In my opinion, if you can imagine getting married to the person, then it's bound to happen! It's when you aren't thinking about marriage or a wedding with them that you may need to worry. I've been engaged for a year as of a few days ago, and we've been together almost 2 yrs known each other for almost 6 yrs. He asked me 6mo into dating. When it happens it's great! I've dated many losers to find him! I'm 25 as well. When you want to start planning more let me know, we do catering, that and I've searched soooo much on everything for our own wedding, let me know if I can help! ~Amanda. Hi there and welcome!

I am a firm believer that you do not need a ring to be engaged. All it takes is a discussion and a commitment from you and your FI. I definitely had ideas in mind long before my FI proposed. We had seriously discussed marriage about 9 months before he proposed. 

That said, is he in on the planning? I would caution you to step back if he isn't. That might freak him out a little, even if the two of you have hypothetically discussed wedding related things. He might feel pressured or rushed. Let him ask when he is ready...or, if you are more conventional, ask him!!! 

So I would just suggest that you keep things general and fluid right now. Don't book any venues or vendors yet. Your FI should be in on those decisions also. Dress shopping is iffy. I see nothing wrong with browsing and even trying on to see what styles you like, but I would wait to buy the dress. What if you fall in love with a ball gown and buy it, but then you and FI decide you want a beach wedding? Ball gowns aren't exactly beach friendly, you know? That's just an example, so take it as you will.

i completely agree with erica- theres nothing wrong with looking and researching vendors before you're "officially" engaged. i certainly did- and when he saw me i was "just looking at rings" since we were ring shopping together.

BUT you need to talk to him about it. because "we are not engaged not sure when he will" isn't even unofficially engaged. make sure you guys are on the same page.
because it would really really suck if you thought things were perfect, but he's not ready for another year or so. or worse, if he's not feeling the same way you are.
