Photographer help!

Hello Knotties!

Please help! I am having the hardest time deciding on a photographer.  My wedding is at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Buckhead, and my reception is at The Peachtree Club in the evening.  My ceremony is at 2pm and reception is at 6pm, so I need a photographer who can stay with me for 9-10 hours, but that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  I dont want the pictures to look like anyone with a digital camera could have taken them; I like artistic shots that capture the moment.

Can anyone make a suggestion?

Thanks!!

I would suggest looking on craigslist. Often, the start ups will post on there. Getting someone just starting out will be a lot cheaper. Also, opting for a photography package that includes only a CD with all the images and no editing will be cheaper. Good luck!

I'm going to say don't look on craigslist.  You have gorgeous venues and you don't need an amatuer shooting your wedding photos.  Trust me, the lighting at the altar in christ the king is tricky and if you don't have someone who knows what they are doing, your photos aren't going to turn out great.  For 9-10 hours, it's going to cost.  Consider having less coverage but a better photographer.

PM me if you want a recommedation.

While I agree that you definitely do not want just "anyone with a digital camera" photographing your wedding, not everyone on Craigslist is an amateur. You just need to do your research. A few suggestions: View the photographer's website, ask to see a few complete weddings that they've photographed, ask for and check references, do a Google search on them and/or their business name, be sure they have insurance, and meet with them to be sure that you want to spend one of the most important days of your life with him/her. Craigslist is free advertising and there are several reputable photographers in the Altlanta market who post for there for clients. Christ the King does not allow flash photography in their sanctuary nor are photographers allowed to move around during the ceremony. Photographers are also not allowed to go past the last seated pew and you are given a very limited amount of time in the sanctuary after the ceremony. These restrictions should not be an issue for a photographer that is experienced shooting weddings under these or similar circumstances. Just be sure to ask about their experience. Best of luck to you!

Okay, I'm having my 5 year vow renewal in Atlanta (we eloped, so never done the wedding thing) - and I'm a photographer that shoots weddings in the Memphis market.  Honestly, don't check craigslist.  Most of us try to avoid CL like the plague, reduce your hours...ask for a le carte pricing, I honestly don't know what the pricing is like in Atlanta (I'm bringing my photographer to me from Memphis) but most photographers will pull away from package pricing to do something a la carte.  You could also look for photographers who do unlimited wedding day hours as well...I hope you find someone to your liking!! :)

It would help if we knew what your budget is.

My photographer is Keith Hammock Photography. You could also try Fotos by Fola, Dom Foto, Fixed Focal, Dana Harrell Photography.

Just do some research. You'll find plenty.

I just posted this review  . . but, saw your post so I am copying it in here as well. She traveled to Florida to photograph my wedding but is based in Atlanta.
I hope you find someone you like . . that is the biggest thing, you have to be comfortable around your photographer so your photos look effortless and relaxed. I loved Michelle and highly recommend her!

Michelle was amazing! She traveled the day before to photograph my wedding and did an outstanding job. We invited her to our Welcome Dinner the night before and she took photos during that event as well. What was supposed to be a beachside ceremony (with all those great sunset photos every bride wants) turned into an indoor wedding at a dimly lit venue (due to Hurricane Lee dropping in on us unexpectedly) and Michelle was great at capturing all of our special moments even though the “must take” list was, in effect, no longer a possibility for me. I hardly even noticed her taking my photo and only realized she had gotten a particular shot after she posted it to her site. She is friendly, easy to work with, reasonable priced, and has a creative eye for detail. I strongly recommend her work. You can find her on Facebook or email her at michelle@ransomshots.com

I give her an A++, smiley face, check, and star!!

You should check out Rebecca Bunch. She did a wonderful job at my wedding and I feel like she was able to capture the beauty of the venue and the special moments of the day.
