Macon - Any budget-friendly outdoor venues within a 50 mile radius?

I have just started the venue research process...wow!  Everything seems so expensive!  I'm already ready to throw in the towel.

I am looking for a facility that has an outside space where we can do the ceremony, and an interior space where people can retreat for the reception.  Maybe wanting this combo is the problem...most places I am seeing average about $3000 and higher - tables, chairs, and linens included.  Once you add photography, cake, food, entertainment, etc., that price could be hiked up severely!

Has anyone else come across any venues that offer indoor/outdoor spaces at a more reasonable cost?

Right now, my favorites (and still pricey) list consists of:
-Tryphena's Garden (Fort Valley)
-Healy Point Country Club (Macon)
-The Cotton Barn at Pineola Farms (Fort Valley) - the most expensive of the three

I have also looked into park rentals for the Macon area...Amerson Water Works park is very reasonable, but I would have to bring everything in - tables, chairs, tents, etc. - that could end up being just as expensive as a wedding-ready venue (I would think).  I am also afraid of being locked into an outside-only ceremony - what if the cake starts to melt, or it ends up being windy or rainy?  Having the option to relocate indoors would be extra-nice.

Am I crazy to complain?  I've only been looking through this stuff for two weeks and I've already had enough...please help!

  • im not sure if dawsonville is close to macon because im planning my wedding long distance.  but peach brandy cottage is decent on price depending on amount of pple.
  • Daswonville is far from Macon.
  • ok thanks lol i wasnt sure;
  • Has anyone experienced a wedding at a restaurant? I've read that restaurant rentals can be budget friendly. I know that you can rent a room at Fish N' Pig on Lake Tobesofkee in Macon...what do you think? Would that be considered fun or "tacky"?
  • We've decided to do our reception at Ruth chrs steakhouse.
  • My daughter had the same issue--they were going to get married in a park in Macon, and then we thought we'd do a reception at a local restaurant.  Then everything changed, and she had her reception in my home in Atlanta.

After looking at a bunch of places in the Macon area, it's my impression that most folks have their receptions in the church basement.  Not exactly my style, but that's part of why you're having a hard time.

The lake Tobesofkee option is a good one--the setting is gorgeous.
image Don't mess with the old dogs; age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill! BS and brilliance only come with age and experience.
  • We just did a wedding at The Hay House in Macon. (I'm a caterer) I think there may be some  restrictions that come a long with that because it is historical, but I think it is only $2000 with tables and chairs no linen.
  • Have you tried Shrine park in Macon? I have worked with a bride who chose this venue. It has beautiful outdoor setting and spacious inside. It is inexpensive as well and allows outside catering.
  • The Veranda in Senoia isn't too far from Macon, and a beautiful venue!
