Future hubby and I are thinking of getting legally married in a civil ceremony about a week before our planned ceremony. He is from another state and his grandparents can not travel to our wedding (health reasons and the wedding is more than 800 miles away)......So we would get married in front of a judge with his grandparents present and then have the religous ceremony that we have been planning all along. I know lots of people frown on that; but we are not doing it for extra presents or any other selfish reason. He just really wants his grandparents to witness this and see it, and his grandmother was crying at not being able to be there (he's the only grandchild living). Would we have to get a marriage liscence here too? Would it make any difference to the pastor that is marrying us here? Anyone know? or know where I could call and ask about this? the clerk's office?
