July 2012 Weddings

Updates and questions

SO, we met with our wedding planner this afternoon to go over reception related things. Did the food tasting last night, so menu has been finalized. Chose our tablecloths and napkins and special martini-watermelon, sooo good! Found a few places for picture taking since our photographer has not worked there before. The planner brought up a few things for us to decide about...

How many of you are doing bathroom baskets? FI and I threw together a list and it would be around $60 per bathroom. Not sure I want to do that!

How crazy is uneven tables making you? Our venue recommends 8-10 per table, but allows a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 12. I currently have 2 tables of 6, two of 12 and the rest a mix of 8 and 10's.

Guest books? Card boxes?

How about head tables? We were thinking it would be awesome if we asat with MOH and BM. Or else just us. We have the option of doing either route, but could have no more than 4 so if my sister ends up bringing a date we will just sit alone.

Is anyone not leaving the favors on the guest' tables? I am doing a photo booth as the favor and may do cake pops, but if we do the cakepops, not sure if I will leave on table, or set up on the cake table.

Lots of questions! All these little details left and it's so much more of a headach!e!

Re: Updates and questions

  • We're not doing bathroom baskets:

    1) People like to steal...I know that they're there for people to use, however, there are a few family members who like to think that they can take it and not share...

    2) We really don't want to have to worry about it..

Uneven tables drive me insane...I'm not looking forward to working on the tables tomorrow with FI...I just had a cousin texting me twice about two different family members she doesn't want to sit by: 1) our great aunt & uncle..2) her own sister & BIL...I told her that I hope they can put their big boy & big girl panties on and behave for one day...It felt soo good to stick up for myself...(she wasn't going to sit next to the aunt & uncle anyways...but she'll still be sitting with her sister's family because it is an even 8 table =P bahaha...Oh and it is 8-10 per table..no more than that...

Guest books/card tables: Our guestbook is our photobooth.  Card/gift table will be set up...I'm not doing anything special to it other than putting our cardbox there:

Head table: We're having a king & queen table see PIP...FI & I will be at one of the ends...and the rest of the WP will be facing eachother...I like it better than people staring at us while we eat..lol...plus we're able to talk more with each other than just the person next to us or the other side of them...

For you, I think a sweatheart table sounds best...

Favors: Our favor is the photobooth...they get to keep a set of their pictures...For you, I think that you should set them at each place setting...people have a tendency to take more than 1 (sometimes 2 or more) if sat on a separate table..unless you make more than your guest count...Honestly...do you want to be worry about making cake pops a day or two before the wedding??  I would skip it and do ONLY the photobooth.
  • We're not doing bathroom baskets either.  To be honest, I didn't even think about it, but I see that as a extra unnecessary cost anyways. and like LM said, people like to steal items and or never learnt the art of sharing when they were in the sandbox.
I kind of like your idea of having different sized tables. And that would not drive me crazy.
FI and I made a custom guestbook with our photographer out of our engagement pictures.  As far as a card box goes, we're using a vintage bird cage as our card box.
As for head table, well I hate head table, their not my thing.  FI and I are doing a sweetheart table. We were at FILs last night for dinner and ended up on the topic.  I told them this was our plan and they'd never heard of it before.  They thought it was a great idea.
As for favors, they are not being left on the table.  I think there's enough stuff on the tables as it is with centerpieces, dinnerware, pictures frames, etc.  We're doing lemonade in mason jars and I'm putting them in a old trough I got at a yardsale and we'll have a mason jar with straws if people want to drink it then and there.

I also have family members I KNOW would think nothing of taking several handfuls of things our of bathroom baskets to use at a later time...so most likely skipping this! Might make a small "emergency" bridal kit to keep in our suite.

I am doing photobooth as the main favor... if I do make bride/groom cake pops to give out, we'll make them in advance, freeze cake, and decorate a few days before...still have to determine if that is possible time wise! If we do them, trying to decide if it would be better to have it set up on a tiered platter thingy we have so people can take if they want them. Or set just enough per table in a vase...They could get squishy and melt if left our on/near on plates!

  • We're doing bathroom baskets. It was just a last minute decision my mom made and she basically bought all the stuff herself. My mom also bought the card box and guestbook so I'm pretty much all set with that--she's such a big help. We haven't even started looking at putting together a seating chart yet but uneven tables would prob. bother me because I'm anal like that lol I like everything even. And the favors..we're having 3 different favors. Two are food related and will be on the tables for the guests, and the third are wine bottles.  Because of the venue rules, we can't have the wine favors on the table so they will be displayed on a table at the entrance and will be handed out at the end of the night.

I recommend doing this! I'll have a larger supply of things in our suite at the venue..but I also bought hand bags for the girls to use the day of to keep their phones & license in. I'm putting bobby pins in them..and I haven't decided what else yet...

Well, I did decide to do a bridal suite basket after all! I stopped by Wallgreens to pick up a few things, and started throwing things in my basket that I envision could be handy. Cost about $60 (I have a basket I could use) and I figure I could place in the lobby for the guests to use after cocktail hour if I remember.
