Venue Suggestions Please!!

Hi ladies!
I am looking for a venue in Atlanta for my reception! I already have the church, but I'm having a tough time finding what I want within a reasonable distance from there (it's on the western edge of Decatur, close to I-85).
We are inviting around 200 guests, but it seems like everywhere I look at either has a max of 150 for a seated buffet dinner or is waaay too big for my size reception!
Price wise, we would like to get the venue itself for less than $5,000.
Location-wise, we're thinking near-ish to I-85 or in Buckhead/Midtown/Downtown, and no further west than Perimeter on I-285.
Please help!! :)

Re: Venue Suggestions Please!!

  • I forgot to add- I need an indoors venue, because my wedding is in July (2013) :)
  • I toured DeFoor Centre (west Midtown) and really liked it.  We ended up choosing Piedmont Room which may also work for you, but it has a max of 200, so it would be close.
  • Yea I know it can be tough I was going through the same thing. Do you have a specific look you want- hotel, a banquet hall, mansion? This may be a little far but The Gala is nice, the solarium, emory confrence center, or try visiting this site http://www.eventective.com/
    Hope this helpsLaughing

  • I would really like to find somewhere with some character, maybe some neat architecture. I want the venue itself to be pretty enough to where I dont have to do a ton of decorations to make it look nice!
I had envisioned a southern mansion or something along those lines, but it seems thats hard to find in the city :)

Thank yall so much for the suggesstions!

Hi! I think a great place given your location preference might be the Kartos Ballroom at the Carlos Center off of Clairmont Rd. It has different "types" of space and is really beautiful. For example, it has an atrium with huge Greek columns that can be set-up for a cocktail area, it's own seperate bar area which is nice with high-boy tables and then there is a ballroom which can accommodate a large group, or be partitioned (not in a cheap way!) for a more intimate feel. You can search it out on Facebook. You can bring in your own alcohol, which also really cuts down on your costs! They have outdoor areas you can set up, too. I've seen it with white lights, but not sure if they include that or if it was brought in. Free parking. Proof of the Pudding handles a lot of their catering. They may allow other licensed caterers, too, but not sure. -- here is the Proof link - http://www.proofpudding.com/carlosCenter.php

Callenwold is also lovely - I've been to two weddings there, but I think it is nicer during cooler weather when you can use the outside porches, etc. I've also been to a reception at a historic house in Decatur - I think it was called the Mary Gay house - but again, it's smaller inside with seperation between the rooms. I also love the Atlanta Women's Club on Peachtree St (Wimbash house) and the Trolley Barn - both have large rooms for buffets. I've hosted events at both of the last two (brought in own caterer and alcohol). I think Trolley Barn needs a bit more decorating work to look elegant, though, than any of the others. Good luck!
