DJs - frustrated!

I am SO frustrated with my DJ search.  First off, I come into contact with a lot of them through my 2nd job.  Most of them annoy the daylights out of me, too chatter-y.

I have gotten quotes from a few of them that don't annoy me - and they want $1100 or so for my wedding reception.

UGH!

Anyone have any good suggestions?

OMG dude look into Black Tie Events. They were amazing! I payed $650 for 5 hours. We also received a military discount, but it can't be far off from that price. GOOD LUCK!

I was up front with my DJ that I wanted someone to play music and for the most part be quiet (except when announcing things -- like the Bridal Party or first dance or something). He seemed really nice when I met him and I thought that he will be the type of person I want to be at my wedding (not some cheesy wedding DJ).
    I'm using DJ Slone: http://www.sloneproductions.com/
I received a discount because my wedding is on a Friday but I believe his normal rate is less than $1000 (not sure). My wedding is in July, I can give a review after. :)

Have you tried Avalanche Entertainment?  I used them for wedding #1, my sisters wedding, my parents anniversary and 2 close friends weddings.  They do a great job!

JB Jams out of Gainesville, Ga. They will travel and the DJ almost serves as like a wedding coordinator and will stay on top of all the vendors for your wedding, making sure they're talking to each other, really coordinating alot behind the scenes that you don't have to worry about!

Try Sounds of Bliss- www.soundsofbliss.com They are super professional and understand the event is not about them, but you.  They charge $100 an hour, which is really resonable, condisering how professional they are.

Girl you get what you pay for with your wedding DJ!  Do not short cut in this department.  Anyone can show up and play music but very few can host a wedding reception and entertain :)

I have seen both these companies in action and they rock!

    Lethal Rhythms & Christopher Brock

    Hope this helps!

I agree that you get what you pay for.  However, I think $1200 is ridiculous.  I used to hire DJs all the time for corporate events that were longer than my wedding reception and never paid that much!
