Reception Only?

Hello ladies!  My honey and I have decided to get married on a beach in FL right before we hop on a cruise ship.  It is a very small ceremony, only my parents and his his.  We were wanting to have a reception a few weeks after we get back to celebrate with all of our friends and family.  I'm wondering, first, how to I do invitations for this type of event.  Second, what traditions would we include? Do we have a cake, and first dance, and all that jazz, or should it be more informal with pictures of the cruise and a video of the wedding.  Thoughts suggestions?

Re: Reception Only?

  • You might have better luck asking on Etiquette or Reception Ideas.  Most people will say this is fine, but you would not do first dances, bouquet or garter tosses and probably not cake cutting or a long series of toasts.

  • I feel like you miss out on all that reception tradition when there's such a huge gap between the ceremony the reception...the bouquet would definitely be too wilted for anyone to want to catch... on a more positive side, it frees up a lot of expectations and could feel very modern fresh.
