Congrats! Try not to get overwhelmed, maybe just take a couple weeks to enjoy being engaged before diving into planning?

I would start by drafting a tentative guest list so you know approximately how many people you are expecting, so you can find a venue that can accomodate that many.

Then set a budget, and figure out where it will be coming from - you two, your parents, his, or a combination of all three?

Once you have your guest list and budget, you can really take it from there. Good luck!

Awww...so sweet. Congratulations! Take some time to enjoy the feeling...if I could bottle up that "just engaged" feeling and sell it, I'd make us all rich! :)

I totally second this. I think the only thing you really need to worry about at this moment is figuring out roughly how many guests you're going to have and how much money you are going to spend.
Next step for me would be to figure out things like theme of the wedding and all that so you know what kind of venues to look for. Maybe you and your FI should make a list of things that are really important to you so you can keep that in mind while looking at vendors and venues etc.
Other than that - I would check out the Knot's wedding checklist.
Good luck and happy planning! Don't hesitate to come on here - this is the best board for asking questions! Everyone here is so friendly and helpful - we're not full of trolls like most of the other boards on this site!!

Yay! Congrats to you both. I use the Knot checklist...but I am not following it exactly. It's a good guideline and starting point to see what kinds of things you actually have to do throughout the wedding planning process. But the order and timeframe of what you actually do is up to you (as long as it all gets done)

I would definitely set a budget since vendors always ask what you're budget is first.

Definitely start looking for a venue for your ceremony and reception next. Once you do that you will know much more about what your venue actually includes and offers. They might already include catering, linens, etc. for you.

    Good luck and happy planning!
