Fulton County Marriage Licenses?

Hello,

We're looking for any experiences out-of-state couples have had in getting marriage licenses in Fulton County, Georgia.

We're flying in from California a few days before our wedding (Tuesday night for a Saturday ceremony) and are really hoping we have enough time.  Embarassed Do we just show up at the county office and get a license right there, or is there some time for turn around that we have to go back? Have people had problems getting licenses in 1-2 days?

We'd love to hear from people who've done this before, as well as any tips/tricks for getting this done easily (like going to the office in Roswell, etc.).

Thanks in advance!!

There are no issues.  Make sure you call the Fulton County Probate Court ahead of time.  I'm assuming you're getting married in Fulton County?  If you're out of state, you have to get your license in the county in which the ceremony takes place.

You show up at the Probate Court to get your marriage license.  Each county's fees are different, but they're all around $60-$70 to get your license.  It takes about 30-45 minutes to fill out the paperwork and get your license.

My advice, however, is to call the court ahead of time in case they want you there at a certain time, etc.  When we got our license (granted we live in Georgia, but there were out-of-state people there, too) we were told to be there before 4pm (even though their offices said they close at 5pm.)

You get a discount on your marriage license in GA if you got pre-marital counseling and have proof of it. There should be a form to print out on the county probate court website and you have your minister/officiant fill out and sign, and then you license is significantly cheaper!

That's only for Georgia residents.  The above persons are not residents of the State of Georgia.

Do you have to get married within a certian time period of receiving the license? I was wondering if we could get our license in June when the ceremony isn't till September?

No, you don't.  We got our license last week, and we were told by the court clerk that it doesn't expire until the day after the wedding day.  Our wedding is in August.

You can always go to the website and call and ask.  One of my friends is getting married in North GA, and they told her that her license does expire.  However, I am getting married in Hall County, and they told me it doesn't expire.  Just don't forget to order extra copies of your marriage license for when you change your name and all of that other stuff.

We are out of state, and we just got ours last week...out of state licenses are only good for 30 days! It was very easy, we walked in on a weekday to the probate court in fulton county...we were there for 45 minutes tops. Just bring 2 forms of identification, and CASH. They don't take a credit card or check. Our total was $56 i think! Also, make sure you are there WELL before 4...One couple was back from the day before because they got there at 3:45, and they were told they were too late because the clerk closes her drawer at 3:45! It was surprisingly easy! Good luck!

I guess it depends on where you are getting your license.  I noticed that the town in which we are getting married in North Georgia's license fee was $76 while every place else is $56.

We got our license where we [currently] live near Atlanta, but we're getting married two hours north.  We just had to tell the clerk our wedding date and location so she could put it on our application.
