DJ recommendations

Hi ladies!
I got a lot of great photographer recommendations so now I'm asking for recommendations for a DJ, and if you feel comfortable sharing, how much you paid/are paying for them. I actually have no idea how much to budget for that. All I know for sure is that I want a DJ as opposed to a band because I like listening to music by the original artist... I'm not into cover bands, etc. Thanks in advance!

We booked Schaffer Sound. Our wedding is not til next year, so i cant tell you how well or bad they were. We met them in their Media office and the DJ was nice and they were also very familiar with our venue. They were reasonable priced ($800) - compared to other DJs we have contacted ($1000-$1500). I read great reviews about them on the wedding bee, so went ahead and signed them.

No Macarena they were amazing.  No cheesy music, people were dancing the whole night.

We paid $950, which was an extra $50 for a holiday weekend.

I booked DJRobert. I found him on craigslist. He only does weddings. We're paying $575. We had a meeting before I booked him, he was great! I'm really looking forward to him DJ-ing our wedding (both ceremony and reception)

I also used no Macarena back in the day and paid a very similar rate to what they charged NCV.  I used Kim Alexander Walsh, the owner of the company, and she was fantastic.  DH and I had some unique-ish ideas for music and she was able to seamlessly inporporate everything from doing a Vitamin String Quartet playlist during our cocktail hour to rockrolling our reception ;)

I used DJ Joe Moser from DJ's Available.  He had the floor packed all night.  Everyone commented on how good he was.  We wanted a real party and he made it happen.  He played our must plays and ignored requests for our do-not-play.  I can't say enough great things about him.  We paid around $650.

I used Pulse Entertainment and was able to have ceremony music, cocktail music, reception music and lighting for about $1200.  I really liked that you can customize their packages to fit your budget.  They also have A LOT of DJs to choose from.

I will be honest with you, I had some issues with the DJ I first picked, Eric A.  We were told that the DJs don't finalize things until two weeks before the wedding, and we were totally fine with that.  However, our DJ decided to take a two week vacation to Japan, told us two days before he was planning on leaving and wouldn't return until a couple days before our wedding.  Unfortunatly I was working nights that week and did not have the time to meet with him with my husband.  He wouldn't meet before the trip because he lived in North Jersey and it was "inconvient" for him to drive all the way down to Bucks Co to meet with us.

I emailed the owner, Ross, and with in 15 minutes he was calling me to remedy the situation.  We got a new DJ, Chad, who was willing to meet us whenever we wanted at our apartment.  Chad was super energetic and we liked his quirky personality.  I cannot say enough good things about him and the company.
