Joey G's Catering (Joseph Garvey)

Has anyone used Joey G's Catering?  What did you think?

He is based out of Newtown, PA.  We are getting married at the Pearl S. Buck Estate in May 2012 and I am looking into caterers.  He is one of the recommended caterers but I can't find many reviews on him online, I think because he runs his own catering business.  My concern is that any time I've tried to contact him we are always playing phone tag or he does not respond as he states he will. For example, on Monday he said he would forward a proposal that evening and I haven't heard anything since (it's now Thurs).  I'd like to hear from other brides who have used him to see if he's really worth it or if this is going to continue to be a problem.  I like that he is very flexible in the options he can offer, but his lack of follow up and contact concerns me. I don't want to wait until the last minute to figure out everything!

Thanks for your help!

    Hello!
This is a very timely question.
Quick story - we were scheduled to have our wedding at Pearl Buck (congrats! It's beautiful!!) on August 27th... On Friday, the 26th, Open Aire called and said we had to cancel due to Hurricane Irene. They offered to do it that night, the 26th. Which sounded crazy! Quickly we called all of our vendors, and all were able to do it, but one - our caterer.

Stacy at Open Aire recommended Joe Garvey at the last minute, and with our wedding scheduled to take place 7 hours later, we hired him.  A WONDERFUL piece of seredipity.

With no choices to the menu, we left it all in his hands. We arrived for the cocktail hour with scallops and vegetables being grilled on the lawn, fresh fried mozzarella, bacon and cream cheese, pigs in a blanket (our one demand!) - all were delicious.

As you'll see, as the wedded couple we only had a few bites of our dinner - steaks, crab cakes, mashed potatoes. All of our guests (and fortunately most were able to come at the last minute!) raved about the food. We had aunts calling for days after to exclaim about the food and our ability to move the wedding up a day. Incidentally enough, one of our cousins used Joe at their wedding about 8 years ago.

Since we did not go through the proposal, tasting, or negotation process, I cannot help you there. But Joe Garvey made our wedding a fabulous success, at a reasonable price, wonderful staff, and delicious food. All on 6 hours notice! We would recommend him fully.

Best of luck with your wedding! Ironically enough, Hurricane Irene gave us the most beautiful day for our wedding.  Pearl Buck is gorgeous.

Please shoot me a message if you have any questions!

This is very funny that I am running into this post. He screwed tons of people by quietly and secretly closing his Boat Catering "Liberty Bell" leaving tons of people in the dust! Kept the deposits of course! I found out that his shady restaurant "Joseph's Grill" in Penndel went out of business because of nobody wanting to eat his food. Unfair business practices such as taking left over uncooked foods from weddings and then reselling it....stay away! His staff is mostly unprofessional and he is now trying to make a living off of cheap sandwiches in Newtown...... who knows how long his Deli is going to be around.....
