Eco-Friendly Weddings

Easy ways to go green?

Are there any small changes I can make to have a more eco-friendly wedding?

Re: Easy ways to go green?

    • Use 100% recycled paper for all things paper
    • Use online or telephone RSVP to reduce paper waste
    • Use local vendors to cut down on carbon footprint associated with shipping, as well as plastic packaging materials
    • Purchase green credits to offset your guests' travel
    • Use planted flowers as CPs instead of picking them
    • Provide a shuttle for your guests to reduce carbon footprint associated with each guest/family driving a car
    • Choose a dress, shoes, etc. for yourself and bridesmaids that can be worn again

  • -Use postcard RSVPs
-Use biodegradable dinnerware (bamboo, palm leaf) or rent dinnerware
-Eco favors (theres like a hundred different kinds)
-Do your own invitations and use recycled or tree free paper
-Wear a pre-owned dress or sell yours when your done
-Hand deliver as many invitations as you can (also saves $)
    -Local fruits and vegetables
-Use in season flowers (organic and local are hard to find but you can always ask where they come from)

  • Choose vendors/venues who recycle. Weddings create tons of waste and so much of it goes right into the garbage.
  • try the website www.etsy.com they have tons of eco friendly items and their are pretty inexpensive. I have seen eco friendly favors, flower girl and ringbearer stuff. Even invitations or dresses. Good Luck! Go Green!

    Hi--

There are so many easy, budget friendly ways to add a bit of green into your wedding (WITHOUT having to sacrifice on style or modernity).

I invite you to check out my blog, Something Green (www.somethinggreenevents.blogspot.com) for some fresh, green ideas. The goal of SG is to offer inspiration, tips, resources and DIY tricks to help brides incorporate green elements into their special days (from the bride who wants a 100% green event to the bride who maybe just wants to add a green favor or two). The site is updated daily Mon-Fri.

Feel free to drop us a line anytime-

    Cheers,

  • The best thing you can do is cut out almost all plastic and disposable items, at least for a start. Having the reception and cermony in the same place is also ideal, as is opting for biodiesel or electric/ hybrid vehicles instead of a stretch limo. Keep meat at the reception to a minimum, and use recycled paper.

Also, check out The Green Bride Guide, a great resource for eco-concious brides.

    Good luck!

Recycle/reuse by buying vintage and second-hand items!  Whether its your wedding dress, grooms shoes, table linens, guest books, etc, you can find a vintage-eco-chic option for your wedding.

  • Some ways I am going green for my wedding are:

-The name cards on the tables will be seed packets- also doubles as a favor!

-The escort cards are actually terra cotta pots! Also favors and go with the seeds

-The pots and some of the tables will be decorated with paper flowers that I DIY'ed from pages of bridal magazines

-The ceremony and reception will be at the same venue, saving in transportation. It's at a lakeside resort so my honeymoon will be there too!

-The bridesmaid dresses I chose are in a style that can be worn again

-The invitations were printed on recycled paper and designed to use the least amount of paper needed. Also saves on postage since they're lighter
  • Thanks for all the ideas! One thing I'm doing is e-mailing the save-the-dates.
