Question about china/dishes.

Does anyone have the china set Mikasa Italian Countryside?  How do you like it?  How does it stand up to everyday wear?

We had originally registered for Martha Stewart dishes, but decided to change it because we wanted something lighter weight (I wouldn't mind Corelle, but no place we are registered sells it).  When we stopped in at Macy's last night, we checked out this pattern and liked it, thought it was light enough for everyday use, but was also nice enough that I could set the table with it for a dinner party or holidays and it still be fancy enough.  We also liked the fact that 1) it's doesn't cost $249832 a place setting (it's actually cheaper than the Martha Stewart stuff we picked out; $200 for a 45 piece set) and 2) we can get it at both Macy's and BB&B, which maximizes the giftcard strategy.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any reviews and make sure we aren't making a huge mistake.  Thanks!

That's what we registered for!!!  We use it for every day and we love it.  It's not too heavy, it's so classic and everything is the perfect size.  I also think it's been around for a realllly long time so if you ever broke a dish, you could always replace it. Definitely recommend it!

That was my other question- how long has it been around?  That was a strike against Martha Stewart.  Since her plates are seasonal, we would never be able to replace it if it broke.

My FSIL told me her friend has the same dishes as us - and she must have registered for them 7 years ago, so I think they've been around a long time!

We did not register for china because we never eat fancy dinners here.     However, my uncle did ship up my grandmoms old china which I was very happy about.   Have we even taken it out of the box?  Nope.

This is the everyday dishes we would use.  We are getting FI's grandmother's china (full set) and the sterling silver ware (full set).  We didn't see the need to register for either, too- not like anyone I know would be able to afford sterling silver ware.  I don't think I have ever eaten on sterling silver ware.

We didn't register for china either.  For us it would be a waste.  I may get my Mom's china.

I need to find a nice every day dish that you can dress up to make look more formal if need be.....

B2B, that's why we went with Italian Countryside.  I really, really suggest checking it out.

I totally agree it's perfect for every day and can definitely be dressed up!  The line has tons of serving pieces and additions to the set.  I do love it.

Thanks, it is nice but I think I want color.... hmm. I guess I will think about it. I DREAD doing my registry. I am going to put it off as long as possible.

It is pretty affordable. I will keep it on my list. Fi is weird, he might not like it. But in the end does he REALLY care what the dishes look like? I go buy things for the kitchen and he doesn't say but I bet he will have plenty to say when we do the registry, which is part of why I dread it.
