VENUE SUGGESTIONS

Hi!! My fiance and I just got engaged and we are looking to get married around the Phila area next fall. We aren't sold yet on the city wedding... We may be leaning towards a rustic, but upscale venue with gorgeous views AND GREAT FOOD for ~150 guests. Any suggestions???? We are moving out of town for a year, so want to get a venue asap. Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: VENUE SUGGESTIONS

  • My FI and I are having our reception at North Hills Country Club in Glenside.  The venue isn't really rustic but it has beautiful grounds with gardens, gazebos, and a little bridge that will be great for pictures.  They are also very resonably priced (we got a discount below the advertised prices) and easy to work with if you are not currently living in the area (provide catering, alcohol, and cake).  There is a lot of space since you get the outsie patiro, sunroom, and ballroom for your reception.  We're planning to have about 150 guests too and won't have any problems fitting everyone.
  • We're getting married at Appleford Estate in Villanova and are having exactly 150 people (151 including a baby). It's a big old stone house with a giant tented patio for your reception and the ceremony is by ponds with a waterfall and huge old trees. They have a rose garden, perennial garden, hedge maze, cool tree lined path, etc so it sounds like it would be right up your alley. You bring in your caterer so you can pick anyone you want to get the food you like.

Laurie McGrath is the executive director and she's really nice, since it is a non-profit they seem more low key and you don't get a hard sell.
  • I really love the John James Audubon center. Ive heard the food is great and you could not ask for a more beautiful venue! The only reason we're not getting married there is because we want a pig roast, and they cant accommodate that. good luck!

I'm getting married at The Mansion at Ridley Creek State Park.  It's in an old mansion that's surrounded by gardens and the forest.  It's beautiful!  I think the max number of people you can have in the ballroom is 150, and you can get married outside.  It would be really pretty in the fall with all of the trees!  You can also pick your own caterer so you can control your price and the food that you will have.

Ditto Ridley! If we hadn't gone w/a winter wedding we would have gone there.
  • Thank you all so much! I think we might do either the Greenville Country Club or Winterthur.. Anyone have any feedback on these? All the suggested venues look amazing- I literally tried to get to them all, but am running out of time. The Villanova venue is gorgeous.
    Thanks again ladies!
  • We got married at the Hilton on City Ave last month. It was wonderful!!! Everything turned out great. Randy, our contact, was amazing and there the whole night. We had our own waiter who made sure always had a drink and also made sure our dinner wasn't removed until we at most of it. It is newly renovated and beautiful. They do have a minimum revenue though. However, every dime is worth it.

I've held corporate events at the Hilton on City...Randy is wonderful, I agree...if we lived closer to it, I propbably would have considered doing my wedding there, but we live in Bensalem so we are going with a mansion in Langhorne...

  • We are getting married next June at The Arts Ballroom on 13th and Spruce. It is a Stephen STARR venue so he caters whole event. Ballroom is stunning. Check it out :)
