Petite sizes

Does anyone know of a dress shop in the area that carries petite/smaller sizes in store?

I went out to David's in Springfield a couple of months ago and none of the dresses fit me.  I couldn't get a feel for anything that I might like b/c there was just too much material.  The extra material made each dress so heavy and they all looked funny on me.  Plus, the way they clipped me made me feel like I was about to go bungee jumping and didn't allow me to see what the back would look like.  It wasn't fun for me at all and it has made me put off trying anywhere else.  Any suggestions would help.  TIA!

There's a bridal store downtown which I never noticed before (I don't know the name). It's on Pine between 9th and 10th, you could try there, some of their dresses just looked smaller in size.

How about Bridal Garden in Marlton? I thought their dresses seemed reasonably sized, they had to clip them for me too, but it wasn't so bad. My friend is 4'11 and weighs about 90 lbs and had no issue finding her dress there.

I'm petite too.  I bought my gown at La Bella Moda in Conshohocken.  While they don't have samples in petite sizes, the designer of my gown (Jasmine) seems to make samples with muliple zippers - they were able to zip up the gown to fit me around the middle.  Even though it was big in the chest and hips (and too long), I was able to get an idea of how it would look on me.

What style of gown are you looking for? Maybe you could try a slimmer fitting style?  I realized right away that I was swimming in gowns with fuller skirts & lots of folds.

most of the dresses I tried were sheaths or trumpet styles.  I still don't really know what I want.  I know this sounds like a stupid problem but it would be nice to at least be able to get an idea of how a gown would look on me.

I had the same problem, It was hard for me to see how the dress would lay shape wise. Even when the dress was ordered, it was way too big, so when I went to pick it up I had to gather ton's back in my hand...

I would think to get a shape that looks best on you, I've seen davids bridal with 0's and 2's... however I haven't actually gone to the store to try them on. That may help you figure out what style looks best on you, then take that elsewhere to start looking.

It sounds like a good problem to have, but can be really really frustrating, so I understand the annoyance.

i had the same problem!!  david's does have a lot of small sizes and some of their dresses can be ordered in a petite size (doesn't help when trying on though).

just thought i'd share my two cents!

I'm glad to know I'm not alone on this.  I was hesitant to post.  It is very frustrating and has kept me from trying other stores.  I went to davids b/c they do sell smaller sizes but they don't have them as samples instore.  It was disappointing.  Anyway, I'm just happy that I already have an awesome seamstress!
