NWR - CO Springs Restaurants

Any recommendations for a nice dinner location?  My FI is going to be working in the Springs this weekend.  Since he's staying at the Broadmoor, I'm going to go crash with him :)  We've got Friday night free for dinner out.  Any recommendations?

The Penrose Room @ the Broadmoor is VERY nice!  It is the only 5 star restaurant in CO. :-)  Do you want something less fancy than that?
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!

Chel - thanks.  I thought it might be fun to get off the Broadmoor property for dinner.  Any other ideas?

Downtown on Tejon (and Colorado) is a place called Sonterra.  West side of the street, blue awning.  Great food, and not as pricey as the Broadmoor.  Menu is on their website: http://www.sonterragrill.com/Or there's the Blue Star on Tejon, where it intersects with Cheyenne Blvd.  Neither of these are far from the Broadmoor.

Phantom Canyon Brewing company is pretty good; at least it was the last time I went there a couple years ago!

Tejon has a lot to choose from but I second Phantom Canyon! Awesome artichoke dip... Also if you are looking for a great lunch location go to Marigold's http://marigoldcafeandbakery.com/ Everything on the menu is incredible.

I second Sonterra and Blue Star, both very good. My favorite restaurant is Nosh 121 downtown. It's a trendy tapas bar and Saturday nights they have wine flights for $9 and any 4 tapas for $24. They're small so you'd probably order more but the food is fantastic and we've always had great service. They have a big patio if it's nice outside too. It's actually inside a red brick office building so you have to look closely for the sign out front. It's on Tejon and you can look up the website for their menu. Have fun at the Broadmoor! The Tavern there has awesome thin crust pizza if you need lunch. Also, if you want some drinks/entertainment check out The Golden Bee right by the Broadmoor, you can walk there.

I agree with Nosh too.  Look for the red light out front - it's next to the Pioneers Museum and has a sculpture of giant red paperclips out front.  Sundays they put kiddie pools out on the patio for Dog Days - 'well behaved' dogs are invited in the pool while the humans enjoy the patio. The Tavern at the Broadmoor is their least expensive restaurant.  Very nice.Enjoy your visit to the Springs!

I second Blue Star & Edelwiess...both are very yummy!  Depending on your taste there are also a few other restaurants downtown like Melting Pot, The Famous Steakhouse, Jose Muldoon's (although I think Sonterra is better).  If you want a fun place to get drinks check out Jack Quinn's & South Side Johnny's..I haven't lived in Springs for a few years but they used to both have live music on the weekends.  Have fun!

Sorry, I'm no help with the restaurant rec's but I just wanted to say: the Broadmoor is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! I stayed there when I was a kid, and it was magical :) You are really in for a treat!

I would recommend going to Old Town Colorado or Manitou Springs and walking around all the cute shops then grabbing a bite at one of the many restaurants there (if it's a nice evening, try one with a patio). That area of town is so quiant. My recs would be Jake & Telly's, Craftwood Inn or Mona Lisa. Have fun!

me2 is referring to Old Colorado City, which is Colorado Boulevard west of I-25.  There are several blocks of cool restaurants and shops.  Second Jake & Telly's (Greek food).  There's also Mountain Man Fruit & Nut for snacks, and the fabulous Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.  Meadow Muffins (Colo & 26th St) is funky for lunch.  Second Southside Johnny's too (south Tejon) CO Springs isn't that big a town - all the places discussed in this thread are reasonably near the Broadmoor.  Check out Cheyenne Canon and Helen Hunt falls if you have a little time to sightsee (near the Broadmoor)
