Colorado honeymoon

Hello knotties, At the suggesting of a masked_rose86 I'm reposting this in the colorado section of the boards. My FI and I are starting to think about our honeymoon. We are not beachy people and don't have the time we would like to to travel to europe. I have not been to the rockies and think that would be a nice place to relax. Has anybody honeymooned out there? I'm up for any suggestions of where to stay or what to do in colorado? Thanks!

We are from Denver & are going to stay in-state for our honeymoon. We'll be spending a week in Telluride (can't wait!). There is SO much to do here...you will have a blast if you come to CO for your honeymoon! There are tons of fun mountain towns, lots to do in the city. For starters...here are a couple things to start researching: Vail Village, Apsen, Glenwood Springs (awesome hotsprings pools!), Breckenridge (fun little town!), Devil's Thumb Ranch (very nice "dude ranch" in the mountains with all the modern amenities), the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs (luxurious!), and the list goes on! What are your interests? When are you planning to honeymoon?
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!

Just being outside in general is what is important to us. The FI gets antsy easily lol. We are planning to start our honeymoon on May 24th 2010. We are looking to spend about a week in Colorado. I'm getting excited listening to all those options

We live in CO Springs and stayed local for our HM.  We rented a house through Vacation Rentals By Owner (vrbo.com) and had a fantastic place near Keystone for a week.  Depends on your interests, but we went horseback riding, hiking, rode up the ski lifts at Keystone and rode mountain bikes down, kayaking on Dillon reservoir, Glenwood Caverns & hot springs, and the Alpine Slide in Breckenridge.  You could set up a 'home base' like we did and do day trips from there . . . Wolf Creek is another place that's nice - day trip to Pagosa hot springs.

One more thing - be aware that late May can still be chilly in Colorado, and 'could' possibly snow.  My daughter's birthday pool party (June 15) got snowed out one year.  Depending on the elevation of your HM spot, be prepared for *possible* less than traditional Summer temperatures, and/or the obligatory afternoon thundershower.  Not really a problem, as long as you have the clothing ready for big changes in the weather on short notice. Since you have lots of time, you can start contacting various cities' visitor bureaus for information, deals, coupons, etc.

My friend and her DH did a rocky mountain road trip. They got John Fielder's Best of Colorado Guide Book and used it to decide what to do on the way:http://www.amazon.com/John-Fielders-Best-Colorado-Fielder/dp/1565796241/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1250803556&sr=1-1I would also check out the Rough Guide to colorado, I have used many Rough Guides on road trips and backpacking trips, and they have tons of stuff to do for all budgets. If you are taking your honeymoon in the summertime (July-September) I would highly reccomed renting a car (or just driving your own) and going to a few towns. Two of my favorite places are Ouray and Breckinridge. GL!

oops...I just saw you are planning on coming in late May, you should still be fine, but it still might snow a little bit, and it's still pretty chilly at night during that time (in the mountains, in Denver it's hot).
