MAGNOLIA HOTEL BRIDES Read This!

Hi Ladies -Just got married and had our reception at the Magnolia.  The reception itself was beautiful but we did run into some problems with the hotel that I want you guys to be aware of:1. I booked the ballroom in 2008 and they had promised me they would honor their 2008 prices.  However, when I got the final bill they were charging me the 2009 prices.  I had to point it out to them and they had to refund me $1000.  If they promised you 2008 prices get it in writing and check your final bill!2. We had four wedding crashers at the reception.  I had to escort four girls off the dance floor and take away the drinks they ordered on my dime.  The street setting makes it difficult to control this.  Ask them to put someone at the door all night.3. The hotel really started to nickel and dime us at the end there.  They had promised me I could check into the bridal suite early and then told me that I had to pay for an additional night in order to get ready in that room.  They also promised to feed my photographers with "extra meals" but ended up charging me for "vendor meals".4. They charged me a 21% service fee instead of the 20% that was in place when I booked the ballroom.  They refused to change this back to 20%.Although they really frustrated me at the end, the reception was beautiful and they did a good job there.  Just get whatever they promise you in writing and check your final bills carefully!

Thank you for your post, as I'm a Magnolia Hotel bride.  We are having our reception in the Club Room (downstairs in the main hotel).  I hope that we don't have any wedding crashers! I have already encountered some of the cost-related issues that you have raised, and it is a bit frustrating.  Luckily - like you - I have been able to work them out.  I will, however, pay special attention to my final bill. I would love to chat with you more about your exoerience.  If you check back, can you let me know - - Did you go with the per-hour flat fee for the bar, or did you pay on consumption?- How was Sidney on-site?  (assuming you worked with him)TIA!

Hi!  So I actually went with the per drink option instead of the per person one.  That turned out to be the right decision!  Our reception was pretty long (6 pm - 12 pm), so the per person price was outrageous.  Plus, not everyone stays till the end, so you are paying for time that not all your guests are there if you go with the per person option.I actually worked with Kate - maybe she is the one that handles events in the ballroom and Sidney does the club room?  The day of they were great!  It's just the bill stuff and a few other things (like them calling my in laws to ask them to give up their suite) that annoyed me.Oh, and last minute they told me I wouldn't be able to check in early to the bridal suite to get ready at the hotel.  They made me rent out the room the night before for $119 in order to ensure I could get ready there the next day.If you want to chat about anything feel free to email me: smarandi@gmail.com.
