RSVPs

My RSVP deadline was Wednesday, and I'm still waiting for quite a few to be returned (about 30 at this point!).My FI will be following up with most of them, as most of them are "his" guests.  However, I have a few on my side as well....a college friend, my cousins that my parents wanted me to invite, etc.Any tips?  I want to include something along the lines of, "If I don't hear from you by XXX, I will assume that you will not be attending."  Is that rude?  I'm basically planning on something along the lines of "Dear X, I hope that you received the invitation that we sent.  We're getting down to the wire (less than a month to go!) and I wanted to see if you were going to be able to make it.  I totally understand if you can't, but I wanted to check since I'm due to give counts to the caterer shortly."Sound ok?

we called ours. we were able to get quick answers over the phone. with email you take the risk of them still delaying their answer.

yeah i think calling will be the way you'll want to go, get your answer sooner. but the way you plan on wording it i think will be perfect (with out the "Dear..." of course)(= there's my 2 cents 2 days later (=

I agree - calling is best and is the quickest way to an answer from each party.  Also, by not writing anything, no one can say you're being rude b/c they misconstrued your tone ;)

Some of our stragglers were coworkers of the groom.  He hounded and hounded them for an answer, then when it was the last possible day, they finally said "SURE, we'll come".  So we included them in the count and guess what, they didn't come.  So my advice is, if you have to hound any of your guests at all, don't hound them, just assume a no.
