Catholic Churches

In regards to my previous posting, we are still looking into various Catholic churches for our ceremony. But we are also wanting to become members of the church. Does anyone know of a Catholic Church in the Downtown/central Denver area that doesn't require 3-6 months of attendance before you can become a member? We need to establish membership ASAP! Thanks for your input!

I don't recall that Holy Ghost required attendance prior to membership.  I do believe, however, that there is a requirement of membership (not sure on the length of time) prior to receiving sacraments (ie, setting a date for a wedding).  If you're interested in membership at Holy Ghost, just give the office a call (Mary - the office manager - is pretty helpful).  It probably wouldn't hurt to mention that your FI has been a member of a parish back East and, since he's the Catholic, you may have him call about membership and become the member.

We just inquired about Holy Ghost today. Mary said we have to attend 3 months before we can set a wedding date to get married there. She said we can pick a date come January. I'm a little nervous to set a date at my venue and then not have it available come Jan. at Holy Ghost. I just wish they would let us "pencil in" a date now and still go through the process of becoming a memeber.

I didn't realize that, sorry.  I was a member for several years before inquiring about our wedding, so I didn't have to deal with that.A good resource would be the Archdiocese of Denver website - all of the parishes are listed and you can sort by city.  Many of the churches have websites and some of the information you're looking for might be available.I wouldn't book a reception venue without first setting the date with the church.Good luck!

You can always become a member of another church and then get married at Holy Ghost. We are members of St. James, yet we were able to sign the papers at Holy Ghost with out Priest (at St. James). Don't know if this helps or not- but that is what I did. Also, there is a CUTE Catholic Church (St. Elizabeths?) on Metro's campus.

I checked out Saint Vincent de Paul's website and it looks like they don't require you to attend for a period of time before becoming members.  Here is the website, location, and contact info if you are interested in looking into it more:  http://svdponline.net/Hope you find a church you are comfortable with and happy with!  As someone else suggested you could join a different church than you are getting married at (though I understand why that would also be a little sad too).  Hope something works out for you!

Just FYI - I noticed a post on the Nest about Most Precious Blood.  Sounds like people are pretty happy with it...you may check it out.

Ladies, You have all been so much help. With your advice/suggestions, my FI and I went to check in St. Vincent- LOVED it! We are going to mass Saturday morning and registering. The great thing is, they are close to home! We also check with Holy Ghost, and we can look into our ceremony there once we start our marriage prep through St. Vincent! Thanks again for all your words of wisdom! Tasha

Yay!  I'm so glad to hear you loved Saint Vincent :)  It has a special place in my heart since I went there from when I was born till early years of grade school.  Good luck with marriage prep and the rest of wedding planning :)  It is all a lot of fun!
