Torn on Videography

Is anyone else torn on whether or not to hire a videographer?  My FH doesn't want one, but I do.  I would insist on one but it seems that videography costs MORE than photography!

Are you using a videographer?  Who did you use?

    i'm not using a videographer-simply for that reason! i have heard from waaay to many brides that it cost too much

    Do you have a friend with a camcorder that can record the ceremony and other parts of the wedding?  And just put it on a DVD?  No fancy editing, just the raw video?  That will save tons!  And that's what we did!  I am so glad we got SOMETHING on video, even though it's not all foo foo editing!

    I am saving the money and just buying a camcorder. Just what Charlsie26 did. I figure that way I have a dvd of the wedding, no high cost and I can take the camcorder to Hawaii with us!

    I've been torn on this too our wedding is in under 2 weeks and i still am going back and forth on weather I should try to hire someone. I keep thinking that I might see if a student studying film would want the experience for not much money

    We used Paula Wolff, from Wolff Paw Video.  I got a deal b/c she had a last minute cancellation and we did just the raw video, no editing.  I would HIGHLY recommend hiring one.  Shop around for prices or just have someone tape the ceremony like pp said.  You can also make it cheaper by having the videographer for less time.  We had 2 hrs and paid for an extra hour for 3 total.  But you don't really need all that if you just want the ceremony.

    I tried to take in as much as possible from the big day, but even now, people are telling me DH did this or you did that and I'm like, huh, we did?  I can't wait to see the final result!

    Yellow Paddle Photography offers student videographers- they are film students from CU and they do great work...the best part is that you get HD video, they mic the officiant (which is the biggest issue with the camcorders in the back of the ceremony) and the cost for the pre-ceremony and ceremony coverage is under $400 and the full day is around $700. I don't think it gets cheaper than this for pretty much professional work.
