Invitation wording question

Ok...so I only go by my initials, even for work stuff.  My business cards just say AJ and my last name.  I dont even know if all of my friends know what my first name actually is bc I NEVER use it.  I am positive that FI's friends would have no idea.  When I word my invitations should I just put my real first name...Aurietha (like Aretha Franklin)?  Do you think people will be confused? I think it will look prettier with my whole long first and middle name but I actually hate my first name, which is why I have gone by only my initials for the last 18 years.

Re: Invitation wording question

  • I think you should put your full name on the invitation since its formal. Plus, I'm sure people assume AJ is a nickname, so they shouldn't be confused :)

Mehh they'll be alright. No one will be confused. FI's name should be a good enough hint if they still don't get it. And honestly I sure hope no one thinks AJ is actually your full first name hahaha! That would be sad since it's pretty obvious lol. Put your full first name. It will look better and in fact, I'd say most people are probably expecting you to include your full name. Since invites are more on the formal side of things, initials wouldn't be exactly appropriate. Unless you're 100% uncomfortable with your first name. Ok I'm rambling now lol.. I say full first name for sure. :)

  • Thanks!  I do hate my first name (enough that I hate even telling people what my initials stand for when they ask me) but I think it will look better on the invites.  :)

  • Use your first name. It looks more formal that way. My cousins name is Jason, but everyone, from the second he was born, calls him Jake. For his Bar Mitzvah they used Jason Michael (his first and middle names) but then later on the invitation it said to come celebrate with Jake. That way his friends wouldn't get confused. So thats always an option.

  • Maybe use your whole first name on the invites and for the RSVP or return address use your initials? I feel like those are less formal.
