Poll: big picture or all the details?

Now that many of us seem to be in between the phase where the big picture needs to be dealt with and the phase where you work on all the little details: which part do you like best?

I never thought about this until I had this carreer personality test, where they asked us to think about this: if they're organizing this party at work, and you have to attend one of two meetings, the one where they brainstorm about the concept or the one where they fill in the details, which one would you like? I was very surprised that I was one of the few people to raise my hand at the first one.

I like making up concepts, I like doing the raw outline, but once it's time to get it all together, I tend to lose focus. I usually can't be bothered with little details, but I think for the wedding, I'll be a control freak all the way :-)

Re: Poll: big picture or all the details?

  • In terms of wedding planning, I prefer the details. I still don't have all my vendors picked out, but I'm already working on little details like my day of timeline, escort cards, bridesmaids gifts, etc... In the end, I know all the big things will come together, but the little things will make the day extra special (that's how I see it, anyway).

For planning a work related event, however, I'd probably be more interested in the big picture planning. The details could be a lot more work in the end!

  • I'm a details person.  Not just with wedding stuff but with everything I do.  I love all the tiny pieces, and for my wedding, it's all about making the little things as personal as possible.

  • I agree Eline, I'm surpised to realize I'm a big picture person myself. Mostly because, well at least in wedding terms... when I think about it I'm great at imagining what I want, a theme, a look.. but when it comes to figuring out the small things that bring it all together I start losing it and I have no idea what I'm doing anymore haha.

I totally agree, the little details seem to bring everything together and adds touch's of your personal style.

  • I'm not really sure about myself. I hate brainstorming, but I like having a big picture set in my mind and work on the details. I also do better when I work on my own, so if I were to brainstorm with other people, I'd not really enjoy it. I enjoy working on details with other people though! I'm probably just a confusing person.

I'm a big picture person. I wish I could tell someone a general idea of what I want for my wedding and have them do it. Sadly, I can't afford a wedding planner. lol
  • I'm all about the big picture it seems. I like invisioning how things are going to turn out, but when it comes to the little details I get bogged down and end up looking at different things over and over and not making any real decision. I've been able to take care of all the big things, but have completely stalled with all the small things.
